It wasn't about jobs.

It was pure and simple about racism and general resentment that middle-class white men are no longer the special overclass they once were.

 

I agree. But I also think it shouldn't be snatched away from people who've been working for five years either.

That's basically always the response from them when it comes time to dole up for the government checks that they shriek about other people getting. "Well, *I* put in the work over the years." But they're happy to take it away from anyone and everyone else, so long as they get theirs.

White House press secretary calls on pro-Trump fake news site

Sean Spicer is legitimizing conspiracy-mongering sites by calling on them during press conferences.

On Monday, the first question went to the New York Post, a conservative-leaning outlet, instead of the traditional choice, the Associated Press. On Tuesday, the first question went to LifeZette — a website founded and headed by conservative pundit and Trump cheerleader Laura Ingraham.

Jim Stinson of LifeZette took the opportunity to point out that “immigration enforcement organizations and activists” were concerned that Trump hadn’t yet acted to repeal DACA and DAPA — two immigration executive orders — and ask when they could expect Trump to do so.

LifeZette was founded in 2015, and throughout the 2016 campaign was an avid participant in the phenomenon now dubbed “fake news,” trafficking in conspiracy theories about Hillary Clinton.

Major news organizations should stop attending and broadcasting these sessions, simply noting Spicer's a proven liar and they'll have nothing to do with him. But they won't. The higher up on the journalism food chain, the more gutless careerists you find.

 

Since when has the AP been called on to ask the first question? Sounds like fake news.

 

It's a "longstanding tradition" which probably means it goes back to Ike or Kennedy, or maybe later like Reagan. Nobody gave a shit about the White House press briefings until cable news came along. There didn't used to be any. In the middle of fucking WW2, when he was kind of busy, FDR kept to his routine of two press conferences a week. But they were "press" conferences. Radio reporters were there, but no live radio. Just reporters with notebooks.
