    He comes across on TV like a smarmy, generic Republican supporting and opposing everything you would expect, but he's a Harvard lawyer who served in the JAG corps in Guantanamo and with a SEAL Team. I have to think for a number of back benchers, the Trump presidency has been a godsend since you don't need House leadership, or a commitee chair to be "relevant" or get airtime on Fox News.
