Given his history, I'm betting that he has charitable deductions for pledges he made and never paid. If that gets looked at, the IRS might take a very dim view. Of course, the trumpets think tax fraud is A-ok and only to be expected if you have money.

Outside of David Duke, who of course is a big Trump supporter, I have never read such racist venom from an official.

That is one Grand Ole' Party.

If this is accurate, it's a big deal, maybe even a smoking gun. If Carter Page met with a senior Russian official and the Trump campaign lied about it and then found itself stuck with the lie, it explains a lot of things. Once the campaign denies it a few times, the Russians don't need a pee tape. They have the Trump campaign on record denying a meeting that they have on video. All the "No Collusion" from there on is the big lie, straight up. The timing looks like this might explain what got Sally Yates fired, too, if she brought some part of it to the White House not knowing what Ohr knew about it and had not told her.

You know who the only one in this mess who comes out looking smart? Jeff Sessions. He saw clearly that he was involved with the campaign to be investigated and recused himself. Maybe that was done as a matter of course, or maybe because this was swirling around. He knew whatever other secrets that he knew, and he built a firewall. Remember he was very much an insider at that point. He recused and cut himself off from further involvement. He might have been smart enough to see that the Page meeting had gotten them into very shaky ground and covered his ass, or he might just have been following normal protocol. Remember that? When there was a certain standard of behavior which was simply expected, and not complying would result in a lot of scrutiny?

He's probably in deep enough that it won't save him, but it helps. It might explain why Trump is so mad with him over the recusal - not only is he not covering Trump's flank, he's hiding from the splatter damage behind the wall of recusal.
