You know, I was kinda, sorta starting to like Nikki Haley. Not like I didn't think she's like every other person who reaches a high level in politics -- i.e. corrupt. But at least she has been representing herself well. She's ambitious, and I have figured all along she sees herself as president someday. That's fine, because at times she visually seemed like an adult in the clown car of this administration. She was staying above the fray, has called out some of the worst autocrats around the world in that UN job, even as Trump cozies up to them and others in the administration won't say boo.

    And then I read this.

State Department Spent $52,701 on Curtains for Nikki Haley’s Residence

I really didn't have her pegged as that clueless. I know. Decision made before her. Blah blah blah. She still needed to mitigate that before it's in the NY Times.

There isn't money, which is why Mexico is supposed to pay for it.

It's fun pointing that out to his idiot supporters. They screech that the wall needs to be built, then it's pointed out that we're waiting on Mexico to pay for it, and they're left in a frothing heap.

This is pretty much the parody example of the entire MeToo movement, isn't it? Or the nightmare example?
No concrete proof in an anonymous accusation of an incident during a drunken gropefest that happened in high school 30 years ago. It's impossible to prove, and impossible to disprove if you're Kavanaugh and people take any sketchy accusation at face value as absolute fact.

    From the article:

"The government leased the apartment, just blocks from the delegation’s offices, with an option to buy, according to Patrick Kennedy, the top management official at the State Department during the Obama administration. The full-floor penthouse, with handsome hardwood floors covering large open spaces stretching nearly 6,000 square feet, was listed at $58,000 a month.

A spokesman for Ms. Haley said plans to buy the curtains were made in 2016, during the Obama administration. Ms. Haley had no say in the purchase, he said."

Maybe you can still like her? ;)

Crush on her maybe (not really). But no, I still find it clueless. I just hate the optics of a government official living in a 6,000 square foot penthouse apartment in Manhattan that is worth millions of dollars, and then that kind of expenditure like the money flows easily and plentifully. We have $4 + trillion budgets, largely on waste and pork, and we are running massive deficits to fund them, as our debt runs up to dangerous levels. We have been monetizing that debt to keep the facade going, creating some serious economic mess that we're going to pay heavily for. I'll assume when they showed up in the lush penthouse she gets to live in with expensive-looking curtains, she had enough say to question if it fiscally makes sense at a time the state department is making massive cuts. I mean, who is responsible?

CNN reports that Manafort has flipped and will cooperate with Mueller.

Unless the NYT has documents from the pretrump era, I don’t believe the State Department

Nothing softens omertà like a being in jail and knowing you are likely to be there for most of the rest of your decent days ahead. He’s 69, he’s looking at spending a quarter to half of the rest of his life, and his best years left, in jail. I don’t think Allenwood Federal Prison Camp is where he wants to spend his retirement years.

All fair points, though the offices are different and may be treated as such. Enough pressure here could delay a vote or trigger some hearings or something. Nothing was going to stop Pres. Trump from being the Republican nominee on election day.

Is it just about selling records or could it be that when they get older and have children and grandchildren all the God and country stuff that seemed so hokey when they were younger isn't so hokey anymore?
Could it really be a genuine thing that's a part of getting older and having certain life experience?
