At least one allegation was privately known by Grassley, McConnell, etc. Trying to avoid finding the truth relects quite poorly on them. Not that it really matters any more.

This was a rush job from the start. Lifetime appointments should never be rushed.

Either way, huge implications on the midterms.

A thought I saw on Twitter that is perfect for me: “Next week is already exhausting.”

Like most things, it's all about context.
If I do it now, as a 40-something man, then yes, it is criminal. I would expect to have the cops called on me.
If I did it when I was 20 at a college party, after a few rounds of a drinking game, then it's obnoxiousness. I would expect to be shunned or mocked by my peer group and perhaps slapped or slugged by the victim of my antics.

No, it would also have been criminal behavior when you were 20 at a college party, and you’d have merited a Louisville Slugger across the forehead.

I agree with this. Even if he's proven to be in the same house when these things occurred he'll be exposed as a liar and needs to be DQ'd. No argument there.

Thing is, the charges need to be proven on at least some level. Otherwise we're entering very dangerous territory in these matters.
Also, the death threats against Ford are obviously not OK. But don't pretend the only whackjobs come from that side of the aisle. Even if Kavanaugh winds up cleared completely and irrefutably of these allegations and confirmed, there will always be a segment that makes it their mission to pin the stigma of the allegations to him.

That might have flown in the 1970s-80s (and obviously should NOT have), but NO WAY today.

And regardless of this, that or the other, actions like that can PERMANENTLY SCAR someone on the receiving end of it.

I’d hang it up for the night, Batman.

I'm close to it, believe me. My one-hour time limit for political debate has been exceeded.
Guess I'm just coming at this with a 1980s-90s sensibility, since that was when I was in high school and college. I never did or saw anything like that happen, but can think of a couple of guys I knew who might do that and us laughing it off as a wild, crazy night. I doubt I'm alone in that regard.
Times have changed, and too many people these days are trying to go back and change time.

It was wrong then, too. Why can’t you see that?

    Because I'm an asshole, apparently.

I could see what you were doing - basing your opinion based on your own experiences years ago.

Times have changed, and thankfully (and very hopefully) far, far for the better.

Wouldn’t call you an asshole, BTW.

You left out the "Fuck Trump and the Republicans" vote, 'cause that's out there too.

"Second chance" has nothing to do with it. He's never been punished and nothing's yet been taken from him for this stuff. So, in essence, he's still on his first chance. And that really doesn't change if he's not confirmed.

The guy's been nominated for a lifetime appointment to the highest judiciary position in existence, one granting extraordinary power to interpret and determine law that will govern us for god knows how many decades to come. It ain't unreasonable to think a candidate for that job should be held to a far higher moral standard than other Americans ..if not beyond reproach, at least mighty damn close to it.

Yeah, this 30 plus-year-old stuff should not be disqualifying for other jobs. But for THIS job? ...well, that's quite a different thing. Again, lifetime appointment, we can't vote him out if it turns out we don't like him, so we oughta make extra damn sure he's fit for the job before putting him in.
