Am I missing something where firing Mueller going into the midterms would somehow help Pres. Trump? Mueller has spread the investigation into enough local jurisdictions now that it will penetrate regardless of the special counsel. Firing Mueller would, presumably, fire up the anti-Trump sentiment on both the left and the right.

Firing him before midterms is politically dumb as hell, but Trump has been itching to do it for months. The 25th Amendment/"wear a wire" quote provides an excuse.

The God-Emperor may think that it will take some attention off of Kavanaugh as well. Two big blowups instead of one.

I have a great deal of trust in Mueller. I think that he has remained ready to be fired at any time and is completely prepared for it to happen. They may be arranging some loose ends in his office as last minute just in case prep, but the majority of it is already set.

I expect to see an article describing this as a "power play" by Rosenstein. He forces the WH's hand. Nobody will believe he's leaving by choice, hurting the President. If he stays, he "wins" and closes off any future criticism or dismissal without even bigger repurcussions.

Has he arrived at the freaking WH yet? Is traffic in DC that bad this morning?

Didn't resign. Wasn't fired. The circus moves to its next act.

They told Trump there was an 18-wheeler in the Rose Garden he could sit in and had Kelly tell Rosenstein he wasn't fired, didn't they?

Please, just stop. The statements she made to others about the accusation are simply proof that she didn't first make the accusation after he was nominated to the Supreme Court. Either you need to do a better job understanding the point or you need to stop with the bullshit.

So now a statement from the WH saying that Trump and Rosenstein had an "extended conversation," but since Trump is in NY, they are going to meet again on Thursday.

    Sounds so civilized.
