President Trump: The NEW one and only politics thread

The USA Today thing is horrific. Question for those who are more familiar with regime change and the falls of republic than I am: How far away are we from Pravda-like state-run media?

About Taylor Swift: My nephew and some of his friends went to high school with her. When I asked about her, one person replied that she looks like what would happen if someone stretched a human skin over a deer. I'm not sure who her millions of followers are supposed to be, but I don't think I met any of them the other day. Going with the deadline being the main reason for the spike in registrations.

 

We've reached a new milestone on this board. Someone questioning if Taylor Swift actually has any fans.

 

I get the impression that Swift is one of those performers who it is cool to say you hate her, yet somehow she has a big following.

 

Obviously she is playing in empty arenas.

 

She does have one odd looking face.

 

Taylor Swift has 83 million Twitter followers.

30 million more than the president.

 

Shocking, not shocking.

I'm not doubting the existence of her fan-base, they just seem to exist outside of my well-worn circles of daily stuff. I'm not her demo. My eyes glaze over when I hear most of her catalog, but then I'm more likely to stop switching the stations on the radio when I hear The Record Company or The Wood Brothers.

 

You can dislike her style of music, but her songwriting is bulletproof. For that first week when Ryan Adams released that 1989 cover album, it was fun to fool people into digging Taylor Swift's music. I don't go out of my way to listen to her music a whole lot, but I think she's going to be an incredible artist as she ages. She can go anywhere she wants with her songwriting abilities.

 

I get the feeling—not an especially revelatory one—that at this point, if you hate Trump, you will always hate him, and if support him, you will always support him. Nothing is going to change anybody's mind about him anymore. It's all about election turnout. That's the only question.

 

Strongly agree. She can write the shit out of a pop song.

 

It's been that way for close to 2 years.
