Prop 9 in California addressed splitting into three states. It didn't make the ballot, was declared unconstitutional. Prop voting went from 8 to 10 last night.

One thing that fascinates me is how the same voters who elected Scott and DeSantis in Florida voted overwhelmingly for ending felon disenfranchisement, not to mention how voters in very red Idaho, Utah and Nebraska voted for Medicaid expansion. These voters chose policy options that the pols they voted for would never support in a million years.

Correct. I went to bed dismayed and woke up feeling much better. Just took a little recalibration. Beto especially had a weird effect on my judgment last night.

Here is every political science theory boiled down: There are more dumb people than smart people, and some of the dumb are very, very dumb.

This was the easy one, though. It was important and they had a good night. And you definitely can't overlook the fact that it was a mid-term (always bad for Democrats) and a good economy (good for incumbent party).

2020 is a lot harder. They need to spend the next two years striking a delicate balance between beating the shit out of Trump and doing populist things with their House majority.

It's not just dumbness. People are voting for identity reasons. When given a chance to make policy, they go their own way unencumbered by tribalism.

If Trump were a normal President in charge of a normal political party, he'd immediately seek out Democrats for a mutually acceptable fix to Obamacare's glitches and put the health care issue that cost his party the House to bed. But he isn't, the GOP isn't, and he won't.

This was all about starting to undo a lot of the damage done at the state level between 2008-2016. The Democrats losing focus of the state level, drunk off the accomplishment of Obama's election and re-election, the power of a brief congressional majority and the rapid shift of social issues in American society in their favor, set the stage for the last two years.

It was like a house being lifted up on jacks with the Democrats living inside it. The GOP put it on a flatbed and carried it to another location where they had built their own foundation. It's going to be there for a while. But at least the Dems have identified it and last night was a good first step in reversing it.

    Cocaine Mitch coins "presidential harassment"

Seems to be the new talking point as noted out on Twitter.

Donald speaks to the nation shortly. I'm sure it will be a recap of the Republican victory glorious last night.

And as far as slamming Iowa for reelecting King, remember, King is the only Republican left standing in Iowa. Don't lump the entire state in with that district. Minnesota had Bachmann.
