I agree with Jimmy Carter. Who today?

I contend, and have for some time, Trump is a manifestation of our political mess, and he gets by in part because of the prevailing belief that everyone lies, all politicians are devils and at least Trump is an entertaining devil. His support is built on negative energy.

But is that statement true? That all politicians lie all of the time?

    It's not.

But it's the default setting for ignorant cynics.

    Which is Trump's core constituency.

I didn't vote for Trump. But I do sense a good deal of his popularity is rooted in "all politicians are devils, he's our devils, and he sticks it to the arrogant East Coast media in the process."

I could write a whole list of Trump's BS. But the whole board does that already. My apologies for not being part of the in crowd round here.

Agreed, agreed, agreed. Agree with all of it.

But who's the person who exemplifies it? Sanders? One of the new electees?

Mitt Romney is clueless, but seems relatively honest on a scale of absolute honesty. Mike Bloomberg. Sherrod Brown.

On the scale of political honesty, I'm not sure. There have to be a few, right? Representatives and senators either popular enough to be honest, or unpopular enough.

I'd say John Lewis can afford to be honest, and often is.

Not the biggest Dershowitz fan, but it's a good place to start about Carter's dishonesty on Israel & the Palestinians.

But that's also where any effort to compare Trump to an actual politician fails.

Trump is a singularity. A lying black swan.

I don't doubt for a minute what you are saying but does that make it right? Does that mean that Trump and his surrogates performance should be the new normal? I would like to see these people humiliated and shown to be the evil, hateful, racist pigs that they are. Fuck them up every single time they spout their lies and never let up. Kelly Ann and her troops actually are the enemy of the people and should be treated as such. But I guess in your world "you can keep your Dr" is the same as what we see multiple times every day from these scumbags. BTW, Obama should not have used those exact words as they were not true but if he said "there will be little change from what we have now as far as keeping your Dr." (we were never assured of keeping our Dr) he would not have been wrong.

There is a major obvious difference between the spinning and optimistic exaggeration all pols have always done (George Washington and Abe Lincoln included) and the flat out denials of reality Trump and his administration engage in daily. Saying you can keep your doctor is an error born of salesmanship. Saying you need an ID to buy cereal is simply demented. The attempt to whatabout and bothsides Trump's pathological lying is pathetic.
