If that is really what you read into anything I posted, it's a distortion, not what I posted.

We have a civil law system that is designed to keep us from harming each other -- financially, reputationally, or in lots of other ways. Don't take what I have posted, for example, to suggest that I should be able to libel or defame you without you having recourse, and it is somehow a first amendment issue.

What I did say -- speaking generally -- is that I want as many limitations as possible on our government being able to criminalize speech or publication of dissemination of information. Whatever justifications they come up with for why it is somehow in the national interest. A lot of potential bad for all of us lurks in that sort of thing.

That is also like three skips and a jump from where you are trying to take me with hypotheticals about you (not the government) doing something that causes me harm, and trying to paint what I said into a box with me having said that is OK. No, it's not OK. And in fact, the legitimate role of our government is to put the system of justice in place that allows me to seek restitution if you harm me.

I don't think we differ very much.

In the vast majority of cases, reasonable limits defending our privacy are compatible with vigorous free speech.

In a handful of examples, those limits become unreasonable and are breached in the public interest.

Gov. Pete Wilson swung the first wrecking ball, when he started the GOP down the anti-Hispanic path, to mix my metaphors.

    C'mon, now. What's to learn?

Frankly, if I were CNN, I would just retaliate by refusing to book any Republican or conservative pundits on their shows until the full press pass is reinstated. When asked, just respond that the GOP spits out multiple lies anyway and CNN doesn't have to give them a forum.
