Yeah, I can see how an admin could be uncomfortable after that ran.

Maybe saying they are planning on building a football stadium to replace the current one would have been a little safer, or they will be having the Rolling Stones play a suprise concert in a month, might have been better.

  2. Stop copying what another reporter wrote, and you won't get into this type of trouble.

    Can't argue with that.

No one is defending the idiot copying reporter. But the Admin who got an incorrect item about him in that paper? That's not fair to him. Screw the reporter but the collateral damage to the admin is not cool.

Nevermind stealing the "story" off armageddon's computer. The guy didn't even call to verify. That's on him.

It's stuff like that --- reporting rumors as though they are fact --- that is ruining what credibility the industry has left.

I have to agree with this, although the guy is at fault, armageddon could have used a more innocuous item that didn't bring someone else into it. I still admire armageddon's getting his revenge.

In my experience, nearly every high school press box was a horror story, save a couple. (My favorite was, "There's no press allowed in the press box!!")

That's why I ended up reporting from the sidelines except during rainstorms.

One of those only-in-high-school-coverage moments happened to one of our writers last week: About half an hour after the game, janitorial/security type comes up to the press box and tells him he has to leave so he can go home. Our writer holds his ground, and finally asks the guy for his name, so he can call the school athletic director the next day to complain. Guy is suddenly silent and then says, "I'll lock the door, just close it after you leave."

Actually, my college paper did that one year. The paper has its annual joke issue, and that was the lead story, that the Stones were going to christen the newly renovated stadium with a concert. The news sider who wrote it listed one of the other school paper's number for ticket info and people jammed the phone line.

Then there are the places where the AD's wife makes chili or kielbasa with sauerkraut.
