yup, carney's been great. hanson, though, is having an out-of-this-world season. 21-24, including 8-8 from 50 or more. incredible.

No, he's 21 for 22. And his one miss was blocked.

    He has FG's of: 51, 51, 52, 53, 53, 54, 56 and another I can't find. Must have been a multiple 50-yard FG game.

Also, his 56-yarder was booted with plenty of room to spare. It would have been good from 60.

Do they give extra credit if the kicks look impressive?

Only if they also give extra credit for d-bag responses.

So, that would be a no. Thanks.

Favre doesn't deserve a spot. He wasn't the best QB in his division this year.
Cassell's got better numbers up and down the board.

Rivers should have been in over both. And you can't blame the SD collapse on him - he doesn't play defense.

Sorry, didn't remember saying they should. Simpling pointing out that a 38-year-old, 17-year NFL Veteran has the strongest leg in the NFL. Figured it was pretty noteworthy considering he's 38 and all.

He doesn't deserve extra credit for being 38, either. There is a good argument to be made for Hanson. Telling us that his 56-yard field goal would have been good from 60 is not it.

Didn't say it was. Said it was noteworthy. Especially since I haven't seen a guy hit a 56-yard field goal with that much room to spare many times in my lifetime. In fact I don't recall any others. Partially because of the Lions' inability to get within 39 yards of the end zone.

I'm looking more and more at the Brett Favre selection and shaking my head.

I can think of a few guys who deserve to be there more.

A poster mentioned Pennington, another poster Philip Rivers, I think Joe Flacco is even better than Favre. Maybe that's just because I'm more impressed by the way he has played as a rookie. Shit. Matt Cassel definitely better than Favre this year.

Eli Manning? Meh. I like the other two picks. They are no brainers. From what I've seen Aaron Rodgers played better than Manning, although he has trailed off as of late. I think he has a better arm. I think Manning is good. Not Pro Bowl good. Yes, I realize he won a Super Bowl, but so Did Trent Dilfer.

Another quarterback who comes to mind for the AFC instead of Favre is Matt Schaub. If he didn't miss a handful of games and leave halfway through another he would be a top flight quarterback this year.

As for running backs, all the guys in the NFC deserve to be there. But so does DeAngelo Williams. He is one hell of a running back.

    yup. i stand corrected.

sadly. kickers on awful teams are penalized 'cause even players/coaches look at scoring lists. hansen is 23rd among kickers.

I have a hard time buying John Carney over either Jason Hanson or John Kasay. Yeah, I'm pitching in for a Panther. The original, though his stats speak for themselves.

Kasay is 24-for-25 in field-goal attempts, the lone miss from over 50 yards, in addition to all 39 extra-point attempts. And for those wanting to talk about Hanson age: Kasay is 39.
