Professional wrestling thread

  1. Was there ever a time during the territorial era when NWA had a long-running face champ? Doesn't seem like the formula would work without a heel holding the strap. Flair, then Race, then... um... not too sure, anything else is before my time.

Among the long-running NWA champs were Flair, Race, Jack Brisco, Dory Funk Jr., Gene Kiniski, Pat O'Connor and Lou Thesz. Terry Funk did hold the title for most of 1975 as a heel.

Thesz, O'Connor and Brisco were faces. Funk Jr. was a heelish scientific wrestler.

The long-term champs were technically-sound heels. I guess it's easier to build up a local favorite, like Steve Williams or Kerry Von Erich or Barry Windham in Florida as a face going after the cocky, long-time champion.

It also made a nice contrast to the WWF, where the heels were transitional champs and faces like Sammartino, Baukland and Hogan reigned for years.

Funk Jr. was a face during most of his first NWA title run before dropping strap to Harley Race.

Look, just give me the Little Bastard as a mid-round draft pick.

Will a world champion move to a new show?

    McMahon to ECW?

McMahon to a place called BACKSTAGE and out of a wrestling ring would be better.

Perhaps MVP would go to Raw and Santino Marella would go to Smackdown so the two mid-level belts get new challengers.

We all know McMahon isn't going to go backstage anytime soon.

Maybe he can lure one of the Divas there and stay there.

Also, my idea for MVP and Santino Marella to switch could actually work out better if it means someone beats them on the June 11 Raw and then gets drafted to another show.

I think there's potential in sending MVP to Raw to start up with Cena.
