I tried to watch RAW last night and it was horrid.
According to Meltzer, the ratings for SmackDown last Friday were shockingly low and there's talk that if the ratings haven't risen this week, they'll rush through this angle and move on to something else. I'm hoping there's a big backlash and the ratings stay low. Vince and Stephanie are a couple of clueless tools who act like know-it-alls, but know squat about their audience. From what I'm hearing, "SummerSlam 07" is gonna be a disaster as the big draw is supposedly the cast of Jackass will be involved in at least one (or up to THREE) matches on the card. In typical WWE fashion, they think they're hip, not realizing that Jackass was hot several years ago.

Also according to Meltzer, fans of ECW and C.M. Punk should ready themselves for disappointment. Sure he's gotten a recent push, but the McMahons still don't see him as being anything more than a mid-carder and are only pushing him out of necessity, due to the lack of depth on the roster. Paul Heyman was Punk's biggest supporter, feeling that Punk's unique look/style and his ability on the microphone would help him connect with the audience. But, since Heyman's departure, Punk has lost all support. Meltzer said, despite Punk being arguably the most over young wrestler on the ECW brand, the future doesn't look to bright for him.

    Idiots.

The ending to Raw, especially, was laughable. The crowd was not buying it at all and Steph just looked idotic the entire segment. I wished they'd stick to what the fans want, which is compelling, somewhat realistic storylines involving actual wrestlers and good, lengthy matches. But no, it always has to be about Vince.

This storyline will drag out throughout the summer, no doubt.

Punk is the new RVD. That's why WWE doesn't get it.

The Jackass thing is particularly laughable because TNA used a tie-in with Jackass 2 to give some of their X Division guys (Sabin, Dutt and Lethal, I believe) some personality. And the fans there turned viciously on it, going apeshit with boos when they'd pull some Jackass-style prank to win a match. They dropped it soon enough, and now Lethal is a black Randy Savage. Much better for him. And one of them, Steve-O I think, totally broke kayfabe during his beatdown segment with Umaga a while back ago, so Umaga threw some stiff shots in. Seriously, who the hell no-sells a beating from a 400-pound guy with a reputation for being a legit tough guy?

I have a feeling they'll bring this to a speedy, if inelegant, conclusion. Maybe by the end of next week's tri-brand clusterfuck.

    ECW tonight:

    ECW title tournament:

    Burke vs. Benoit
    CorVon vs. Punk

    Wrestling fans: Benoit vs. Punk
WWE: Find a way for Viscera to win title over Boogeyman

I hope this tournament sets up CorVon for a little run. He's not the best worker in WWE (or even ECW), but he's a strong personality and a good (if somewhat repetitive) interview with a nice finishing move and respectable workrate. They've not done a good job introducing or developing him as an ECW name.

And while there's still plenty of ways to screw this up, at least the four names in the tournament are worth pushing. No Boogeyman or Miz.

I know absolutely nothing about their booking plans, but with Test fired and Snitsky on Raw for some stupid reason, their tall white monster spot is open. Sounds like a job for Dan Rodimer.

Yeah, I'm guessing Benoit and Monty (Cor Von) Brown go over tonight and Benoit wins the title at the next PPV. But, either Burke or Cor Von (according to Meltzer) will be getting the belt fairly soon. Moving Benoit to ECW was so that he could help get Burke and Cor Von over as heels with the fans.
I'd love to see Punk vs. Benoit if they were given 20-30 minutes, but I doubt that much time would be given to an ECW match on pay-per-view. Punk isn't quite as good in those 5-10 minute WWE specialties.

CorVon is ready to win the title, but maybe the IC title. Should have been moved to Raw.

Ha! I meant kenny, not Lenny (and Lodi!)

And why isn't Nitro in the ECW title hunt as a newcomer there? I guess because he'd be facing someone like Boogeyman.

Benoit and Punk win, and the purists weep openly with joy.
