I think when the show first aired, the day after the limo blowup, WWE was using "the FBI" are investigating on their web site, UNTIL the real FBI got involved and told them that wasn't cool because they were receiving inquiries about McMahon's "death."

  2. Yet another WWE PPV tonight... I believe this makes 3 in the past 6 weeks.

I'm really curious how many people are shelling out the 35 bucks for every single one of these.

And TNA last week makes four out of six. Maybe five out of six if there was another TNA PPV at the beginning of the cycle. It's close to the saturation point, if not past it already.

Interesting development coming out of the PPV. Apparently Chris Benoit no-showed, and instead C.M. Punk wrestled Johnny Nitro for the ECW title. Nitro won because I assume Benoit was supposed to, and God forbid Punk get a push when more deserving guys like Santino Morella are around (he got a DQ win over Umaga, and apparently the fans hated him so much that when Umaga gave him the Samoan Spike, the entire crowd chanted "one more time!")

Wonder if Benoit was supposed to hold the title until Tuesday, drop it to someone like Nitro or Burke and said "fuck it, I'd rather go home and wait out my contract." Sounds like a pretty horrible show thus far.

Actually, perhaps this is why Benoit no-showed. Apparently Biff Wellington, former Chris Benoit partner and Stampede Wrestling regular from the late 1980's, was found dead today. So the two could be related, though they made the entire roster wrestle the day Eddy Guerrero died, so it'd be odd that they'd let Benoit go, even if the ECW match was well down the card. Perhaps it's tangical (Benoit didn't want to wrestle tonight because of the news, someone said you're going out there, one thing led to another and Benoit walked?)

  6. Meltzer's taken a break from telling us all the news that's fit to print in UFC to inform us that Benoit was called home due to a family emergency.

Oh, and the ROH show kicked all kinds of ass. Probably the second-best show I have been to--and that includes the entire Mania tripleshot last year.

Based on what I saw and the taping results from Saturday, it looks like ROH is really trying to establish guys' characters. The faces and heels are more clearly defined than I can remember since I've started following them. That's a good thing.

WWE has only produced three above-average and entertaining PPV's thus far in '07: Royal Rumble, WrestleMania 23, and Backlash. That's not a good thing.

Some notes from last night's mediocre Vengence show: Looks like the Hardyz will be going their seperate ways and the Rednecks will begin a feud with Kendrick/London. Wang Yang deserved a run as cruiserweight champ. Nitro wins the ECW Title, which is not a bad thing in my eyes. Santino has failed miserably and I think it's time for him to head back to OVW. Deuce and Domino beat Deuce's father Jimmy Snuka and Sgt. Slaughter...yawn. Edge defeated Batista in one of those frusterating matches with a bullshit finish. Candice Michelle finally gets the Women's Title and cries...actually a touching moment for the vastly improved Michelle. Cena retains in an entertaining and short clusterfuck.

So far, the best show of the year has been "Backlash" but so few people saw it, that it has kind of fell through the cracks.
The McMahon's should steal a page from Bischoff and WCW when it was dominating WWF in the ratings: The undercard was filled with great wrestlers, with the leashes off, giving the wrestling fans great matches, while the uppercard was more storyline oriented. I can deal with that, because it allows all the fans to get a little of what they like. But when ALL the matches are storyline oriented and kept short, it really sucks the life out of the show for me.

Omar, how was ROH? I'm anxious for a review. :)

By the way, according to PWInsiderElite.com, the reason Johnny Nitro is the new ECW champion is the following:

Dave Lagana (who is the creative leader for ECW) has always been a Johnny Nitro guy and has pushed him to McMahon. Meanwhile, C.M. Punk is seen as "Paul Heyman's guy" and, since Heyman is persona non grata in WWE, Punk is punished for it.
Personally, I have no problem with Nitro being the ECW champion ... except now wasn't the right time for it. I think you give Punk the title and turn him heel and have Nitro chase the title. C.M. Punk is by far my favorite wrestler, but since he's been in WWE, I've lost interest. Only in WWE can they take someone as talented on the microphone and as unique as C.M. Punk is, and turn him into another generic WWE wrestler who has no hope to get over because *gasp* someone actually saw talent in him!
I'm dreading to see what they do with Colt Cabana.

C.M. Punk should have been brought to Raw or Smackdown and pushed as an upper mid-card face. He's the complete package, but apparently he may have ruffled a few feathers backstage. Still, I think he's a major part of the company's future.
