Edge is the world champion on Smackdown and was on Raw for a while before that. He's been around in some form for like 10-12 years now. He and Benoit were really close.

I eat this shit for breakfast. And yes, that means I eat shit.

    Not. Even. Slightly.

I haven't watched it really since Brutus "The Barber" Beefcake. I know some of the names, but nearly none of the faces.

  5. Agreed. He just doesn't look genuine. Remember when Owen died and HHH's speech on Monday? Sorry, but Trips was doing a fine acting job there.

  6. Chris and Eddy in the same ring. Will I sleep tonight? Doubtful.

    That's a scene I'll never forget.

    RIP Chris and Eddy.

AP story just moved -- said it's being investigated as a murder-suicide in which Benoit killed his wife and kid over the weekend, then himself Monday. Sorry, no link right now. Also said the bodies were in three different rooms.

    According to AP:

    Associated Press Writer
FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. (AP)— WWE wrestler Chris Benoit, his wife, and son were
found dead Monday and police said they were investigating the deaths as a
    murder-suicide.
Detective Bo Turner told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a
murder-suicide, but said that couldn’t be confirmed until evidence was examined by a
    crime lab.
The station said that investigators believe the 40-year-old Benoit killed his wife,
Nancy, and 7-year-old son, Daniel, over the weekend, then himself on Monday. A
neighbor called police, and the bodies were found in three rooms.

I don't even know how to respond to something like that ....

There's nothing anyone can say about that.

Holy. Shit. I thought this would be a normal Monday night. I had my sister taping Raw for me and I was attending a minor league baseball game with my dad, mainly to see Red Sox uber-prospect Clay Buchholtz in person.

Around the 4th inning, my good friend who I also drove 12 hours to WM 23 with, calls and frantically asks if I'm watching Raw. I tell him my sister is taping it and he lays the bombshell that Chris Benoit is dead on me. I don't believe him, but another friend calls soon after. Then my sister. Then my mom.

I left after the 7th inning of the game, headed home and watched the last half hour of Raw. Incredibly tragic. Edge brought me to tears and Lawler was surprisingly poignant. Eddie and Benoit in the middle of the ring, larger-than-life champions in April 2004...and now in June 2007, both gone.

Benoit was one of the best wrestlers of all-time. He didn't even need a championship belt. He could be a curtain-jerker or main-eventer. He was still respected by every single peer and wrestling fan out there. You could just see his intensity, passion, and love for his craft radiate off of him while in the ring, which is why his fan reactions were always so strong. His performance at Royal Rumble 2003, in which he and Angle single-handedly stole the horrific show, was my most memorable Benoit memory. The Boston crowd completely ate up the match from start to finish and both men received a thunderous standing ovation afterwards. Best live match I've ever seen and probably will ever see. His WM 20 matchup was probably my favorite triple threat match ever...what an excellent gem of a match. His recent WM 23 match was a damn good as well as he has helped MVP get over as a top-notch heel during their feud. And he was about to do the same with the likes of CM Punk, Johnny Nitro, and Elijah Burke in ECW.

I can't even fathom the double murder-suicide scenerio. Unreal.

I posted this on the Sports/News thread, but figured some of you might only be coming here. This is from Meltzer's site:

Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.

Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the lving room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.

Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house.
