I'll give the DX grampas a break on this point. HHH put Benoit and Batista over pretty hard, losing three straight PPV matches to both. Batista turned out to not be very interesting away from the HHH/Evolution dynamic, and Benoit, well, Benoit. The only two wrestlers that could have gone over huge that didn't because of HHH were Chris Jericho (granted) and RVD (never would have happened because of Vince's dislike of RVD -- he'll make some money off him, but give him the top of the card? Not his creation, not a chance). And HBK really hasn't held anyone down since his return.

Kennedy can be big. Punk ... the ROHbots and hardcore fans WANT him to be big, but he's going to have RVD "not our kinda people" issues forever, and if he couldn't win the ECW title last night, he may never win it. MVP could be big, assuming this heart thing is easily treatable. Either Hardy would fall in the Punk/RVD category. John Morrison is okay, but he's a good bit away from the top.

The biggest problem is with no major competing organization and the WCW stars much older, there's nobody out there that WWE would bring in and push straight to the top. Samoa Joe would be the only TNA guy I could see getting that big push, and he'd probably be forced to spend time in OVW like Punk to learn WWE style. They tried with Bob Sapp, but that fell through. Brock ain't coming back, and neither is Goldberg. Cro Cop? Maybe. Couture doesn't have the personality. Ortiz didn't exactly work out in TNA, and Shamrock is too old.

So, they just turned Umaga heel again.

    To which I say, WTF?

Since this was the feud he had with Jeff Hardy before his suspension, I guess they figured they could flip him back to finish it. Besides, they did such a piss-poor job turning Umaga in the first place that there wasn't much to lose by making him heel again. And at least they're being consistent with Umaga's motivations (he got his ass kicked by Hardy last time we saw the two together, and Umaga really shouldn't be anyone's friend).

    Nice hair, Shelton!

Sure sign that they've run out of things for a black wrestler to do: turn him into a blond. See also Butch Reed and Viscera.

  5. This argument does not hold water in the days where Cena is being built as the next Hogan.

Did anyone see Orton boot Cena's father in the face?

That looked and sounded pretty damn real.

Just a theory...what if they use the whole "McMahon's Bastard Son" (MBS) angle to turn Cena into a heel?
Think about it. They're teasing the idea that Kennedy is the MBS, but that's a red herring. Cena is obviously getting a little stale and needs a new angle for his character. So they make him the MBS, have him become McMahon's lapdog and heir apparent, and let him be an asshole for a while. It opens up angles with Triple H (other than the two biggest dogs in the promotion going at it), Shane McMahon (ugh), and even lets Orton get over a little by having Cena duck him or lose by Vince's interference.
Meanwhile, you can get a Cena-Kennedy feud going by having Kennedy pissed that he isn't the MBS.

Like I said, just a theory.

The fact that all the rasslin' Web sites now have spoilers saying Kennedy will be the MBS has me believing that McMahon will want to throw a swerve into things, unless he really wants to give Kennedy the push. It just seems that things like the vignette where Kennedy and VKM talk and Kennedy starts walking just like the chairman are making it seem too obvious and setting up the fans for a surprise.

If you watch in slow motion, you will see that Orton slaps his leg when he makes the kick to get the sound effect.

It is even more apparent when the guy is wearing plastic pants, like Golddust, because the "kick" sounds like someone slapping plastic.

  10. Still, that looked like a pretty hard shot, even on the replay.

  11. It's all about the snap of the impact on moves like those.

And Tajiri was always big about slapping the plastic/leather pants on his kicks. Although he did once break Kid Kash's jaw during a match. Then Kash had him kick it back in.

    But remember, wrestling's fake.

Boy, would that throw the little kids and ladies in the audience for a loop.

But to Hell with them. I think it's a good idea.
