Professional wrestling thread

  1. CorVon was released today, according to Meltzer. They never really did anything with him anyway and if he was having family issues, I guess it's no big loss for the company. As far as Snitsky is concerned, I don't think he's hurt, but who cares? Maybe suspended or are they trying to repackage him for the zillionth time.

They made a big deal about Monty Brown when they signed him, but they never really knew quite what to do with him. His interview style is a little repetitive (he's the Alpha Male, he's rules the Serengheti, he thrusts his chest out to emphasis points, and so on), but he has a good voice and delivery and his finisher, the POUNCE ... period is effective in that visceral car wreck way, like the spear/gore. I'm guessing he'll be back in TNA at some point. He would have been a pretty good partner for Ron Killings on Team Pacman, or at least as good as they could have expected.

Monty and Booker T could have made a good tag team in WWE ... for HHH to poop on.

TNA will tape its first two-hour show over two days.

    From TNA.com:

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling returns to Universal Orlando this Monday AND Tuesday (Sept 24 & 25) for the huge two-day “iMPACT!” taping!

Fans in attendance will witness history on both nights as TNA will tape the first two-hour broadcast set to air on SpikeTV on Thursday, October 4!

Both nights of tapings will be filled with plenty of surprises and action – plus some very lucky fans will get the opportunity to go backstage to meet their favorite TNA superstars!

Tickets are free for both guests of Universal and Islands of Adventure theme parks, as well as the public. Our tapings are located at SoundStage 21 next to the Hard Rock. Doors will open on both days at 6pm ET.

Hmm, I wonder if Jeff Jarrett will insist on winning the TNA World title because of the Impact taping.

  7. Definitely don't like the idea of taping a two hour show over two days.

I'm confused as to the point of taping one show over two days. Unless they intend to use the same guys twice as much.

I don't know if this question has yet been answered. Apologies if it has and I missed it, but here goes: Is TNA ready for a two-hour Impact? I don't know why, but I smell as much boredom as a three-hour Nitro here.

In the sense that they have a big problem with trying to squeeze in what they have over an hour, leading to injuries/turns/upsets/other big angles glossed over because they have to move on to the next segment, they're more than ready. Assuming they don't try to do the current Impact, only twice as long. Add some more stuff, but let what you have develop.

In the sense that they can't handle what they have now, that's a point. The face/heel dynamics are so out of kilter that it's hard to get a great feel for anyone, since in the last year almost everyone other than Sting has turned, including in one amazing(ly bad) segment in which Team 3D, the Steiners, VKM and LAX all turn at the same time. And they can't seem to deal with good fortune dropping into their lap (Angle, Joe, Christian). And they should be more judicious about their WWE castoff signings. Okay, the former Rikishi worked nicely in the Samoan Challenge deal, but a lot of these guys don't add anything and end up disappearing (Test and the Bashams, anyone?)

World Wrestling Entertainment is sending letters to formerly contracted performers offering to pay for drug and/or alcohol treatment. According to one person who has received it, the letter is printed on WWE stationery and is hand-signed by Vince McMahon himself. Here is a transcript of the letter WWE is sending out to their ex-performers:
    ---------------------------------------------------------------
Over the last ten years, an inordinate number of wrestlers have passed away. Some of those deaths may in part have been caused by drugs and alcohol.

In an effort to prevent such tragedies in the future, the WWE is willing to pay for drug and/or alcohol rehabilitation at a certified treatment chosen by WWE for any performer with a prior WWE booking contract who may need this service. The WWE will pay for this service in full.

There is no cost to you or your family. Help will be provided regardless of the circumstances of your departure from the WWF or the amount of time you performed for the WWE.

If you do not have a drug and/or alcohol problem, but know you know a former WWE performer who does, we are asking you to try to help them by encouraging them to take advantage of this opportunity.

Liz Difabio has been appointed as a representative in this matter. Liz has been with the company for over 24 years and has been directly involved with the majority of WWE performers who have received treatment for substance abuse. She understands emotions that individuals and family members go through in this process. Any conversation you have with Liz will remain confidential and will not be released to the public.

In many instances, an individual in need of help is in denial and will not want rehabilitation. There are professional intervention companies that will help persuade that person that they need treatment. Liz will be able to facilitate such interventions, should they be necessary. An intervention and treatment will be at the cost of WWE exclusively.

This service is being provided for performers with a prior WWE booking contract only. No family or friends. Please reach out to Liz if you think you might have a drug or alcohol problem or if you know someone who does. We all need to do anything we can to help prevent another tragedy.

    Sincerely,

    Vincent K. McMahon
    Chairman, World Wrestling Entertainment

Timing's everything. Vince is soon to go before Congress to try to explain why so many of his current and previous employees are dropping dead at an alarming rate.

He writes a letter, offers to pay for drug treatment and counseling, and he's a good guy. Until Congress stops paying attention and another five, ten, fifty professional wrestlers die.
