I wish Webby could charge an small annual fee...but there are numerous issues that probably make it too difficult.

--Very difficult to make a payment with revealing your identity, unless you want to send a money order, which is just a pain.
--One of the great things about sj is the spontaneous appearance of someone who has been ripped or challenged here, showing up to defend his or her honor.  No one is going to pay a fee to do that.  There are also many people who post rarely, but add a lot when they do.  Likely they wouldn't post at all if they had to go through a registration/payment process.
--Seems like a lot more work for Webby or whoever is in charge of collecting payments, processing, etc.

    Especially to your wife.

    "Uhm, it's Don Johnson."

    "It sure IS Don's Johnson."

Not you, because I like you.
And a few trusted members - more than a few - do have my cell number and many have my home number and some even know where I'm staying when I'm on the road. The reason they're trusted? They're not going to call me at 3:30 in the fucking a.m.
Rare are the moments when none of the brass is on here. The shit will get taken care of before long. Sometimes it takes longer than we'd like but that's what we have to deal with now and then.

21 raises good points. We'll have to talk about all that at our next management retreat in Tahoe, open to all since everyone is only 15 minutes away. Perhaps we could work out a way that the people wishing to defend in an attack can get a "guest posting privilege" for that purpose. Who knows? We remain, as always, a work in progress.

I do know this: Webby busts his ass to keep this place running and makes zero money. So any and all donations are much appreciated.

Despite the problems that crop up now and then and the douche bag posters who crop up a little too often, this remains a good joint.

I wouldn't mind paying to subscribe, but I think taking the money might cost more than is brought in.

Also, I'm not sure it would stop the hackers.

Also, I like to look at giant meat poles.

But nobody has mentioned the link to wedding photos. You see, once I saw the Asian dude, I had to click another link. So I hit one that showed dozens and dozens of photos from somebody's wedding. I believe his name was Hu.

Who knew Harrison Ford liked Asian men with giant cocks?
    Yuch!
BTW, I checked my e-mail this morning and where I usually get 10 messages with 7 being spam, this morning, I had more than 30, with almost that many being spam.
    Coincidence?

You know, even if its a token amount -- say five bucks a year -- it would be enough to deter spam attacks like this cause they aren't going to pony up dollar one. The regular posters can't bitch about the cost and it goes a long way toward the hole in Webby's pocket. If 1000 people give webby five bucks each for this (and 1,000 would be just 16 percent of those actually registered)

And 21? Using paypal goes a long way too. Webby gets a name and an email address from the voucher. If he's the only one who knows who we are out of necessity, I'm good with that.

There are a few websites, Kevin Smith's fansite comes to mind where you have to pay a onetime $2 fee...

Other sites limit the number of times you can post right after you register (like once per 30 minutes) for the first 30 days and you also can't start any threads during that time... We could make an exception for the jobs board...

    Just ideas...
