ahhh.. yes... nothing is better than this email... seriously...
(this is just a copy paste job on my part... I had nothing to do with the spelling)

have som concerns about toadys article about volleyball. Why would you NOT
mention qhy little miss Markie was absent from the team? Dave would have you
didn;t have to say eneigable you could have said disiplinary reasons and you
better not interview angie and markie as muchfor basketball as you do for
volleyball becasue that should be the seniors jobs!!Now i relize that this
years volleyball seniorsreal are not a big part of the team bu the
basketball ones will be. Alos I know of a few people that are going to be
signing letter of intents on Nov 14 will you be there to take thier pictures
with thier coaches, parents, and athletic Director? also you should wright an
article about them along with the pic to change it up from what Dave did.
Just a few suggestions.I didn;t mean to be mean about volleyball but they
are interviewed in about every article. also basketball starts soon maybe
you should wright an article about the boys and girls going to open gym?
    just another sugesstion!!

~Just a glimpse into the world of someone trapped in hell~
    [/quote]

Are you fucking serious? Can someone please translate?!
It's sounds like you said someone was ineligible, but the well-versed writer wanted you to say disciplinary reasons? I must have missed where senior = team spokesman. Open gym article, a good time was had by all.

Our HS football team just won its first regional title.
Of course the band kids get jealous and whine.
This is from our paper's online comment section.

"This is an issue that has been concerning me for quite some time now. It is now nearing the end of the Fall sports season at our school, and I have noticed, that it is only the soccer players, swimmers, and of coarse, those football players that get all fans support, when the sports like Marching Band and cheerleading, that get almost as much, if not more practice, deserve the same support too, and get none . The people in the marching band have a bigger group than a football or soccer team. We are consisting of 121 members, and many more staff that have been working with us since the Spring, and at the end of our season, a little over a week ago, it didn’t seem that we got any support from the city, or fellow classmates. We have worked well over 200 hours in our season, and the only people that seem to respect us, seem to be the people in the band. To me, this doesn’t seem right? Now does it. My mother requested last weekend for the Podunk Business’ to change there message boards outside, so we could get a good luck here and there. Not one business changed the signs, not one person gave us a congratulations when we came home, not one sign in the school was made. But all this week, there were “Good Luck Swimmers” and “Take Palookaville at the Game" signs at the school, and on all business message boards. Do they think we aren’t worth it? Why?! Ask anyone of us, we work just as hard if not harder. We compete in rain, cold, heat, anything that you could name, we’ve done it, just like all of you. Why do you all think we don’t deserve it? At the School Pep Rally held on the 3rd of November, they had all of the Fall sports teams recognized by running around the gym as a team. Then it came to telling about the marching band, and they pointed at the Pep Band, which consists of a little over 20 people, and said that was the whole Marching Band, and didn’t even let us get down on the gym floor to show them who we are. Oh but then it came to the football team to be recognized, and the whole student body was in an uproar, when we didn’t get more than a few applause for our good work. The other day, they showed our Stadium competition on the morning announcements, and I heard people in the hall saying that we sucked, and in my first mod class dissing the Band, and telling the teacher to turn it off. But if the Football game highlights were on, they would be cheering, and telling teachers to keep it on the whole mod. Why don’t we get recognized? In the newspapers, they get our scoring information, names wrong, and everything wrong. Why is that? Because they want to get out of there, because they don’t care enough to listen. Now, I’m not just saying it’s the band that doesn’t get the respect, because it is also groups like the Cheerleaders, who are out there with every football team practice and game, freezing to death as well, and never is there a good job for them, when they cheer, or compete, just to raise everyone’s spirits. They aren’t looked at as more than a fashion icon now a days, and I know they try just as hard as all of our other none recognized sports. To you, maybe you think that the Band, or the Cheerleaders aren’t a sport, but like I said, we are as much as a sport as anyone of you sport teams. The only fans we get are our parents, and the few loyal friends that some have. But when it comes to things like this football game this weekend, they actually sent buses of people from the school there to support them. They will bus the entire student body to a football or even soccer game, but when it comes to us, they can’t even say the right information on the morning announcements on where we are going that weekend, and don’t even say things like, “Go out and support the Band.” I’m not saying that I hate the Podunk Sports teams, because I support our good efforts. I’m just questioning why we don’t get the same recognition. I’m one small voice in this world, but I think many other people would agree with me, that we deserve it too. Maybe you’ll never think of this again after reading this article, but just try to let the words speak to you, and tell you, that it is time for change, and time to recognize everyone alike. The Marching Band, the Cheerleaders and many other unrecognized efforts…it’s time to let them hear our voices, and our music."

    Wahhhh!

Can anyone even make a slightly feasable argument that band is a sport? Cheerleading is questionable, but at least you can create a case for it, but band?

And if covering high school sports is what's going to save newspapers, as some EEs and MEs and publishers would have you believe, then why on earth does the news department not cover high school debate, forensics, drama and Quiz Bowl?

Good question, but at my shop the woman in charge of that stuff would try to spin it as sports, and I'm afraid she'd get her wish.

PM me with where this is from, I want to go steal some lunch money.
Though I took the liberty to point out the key part of it all. The only people that care are parents of the members. And I can't believe he had the onions to call band a sport. If I'm going to a sporting event, that doesn't mean I'm going to see [insert musical act here] in person.

I was in band, was a drum major for three years, and its not a sport. The local paper typically did one story on us at the beginning of every year...in the local news section, where it belong. Never expected to be in the paper more than that. Marching band requires dedication and commitment (and the willingness to shut the hell up when the drum major is screaming at you for being an idiot), but it, like cheerleading, chess and golf, is an activity, not a sport.

As a person who did those things in high school, let me say I hope never to see the day when those... activities... make the paper.

I was a band geek in high school, and while I think there is a place in the local papers for band competition results -- submitted -- it sure isn't the sport section. I once got hassled by a cheerleading mother who threw in the whole "they work just as hard..." routine for her daughter's squad that doesn't even compete. Then a year later, the publisher's daughter joins a competitive cheerleading team. Luckally, he's happy with submitting a pic and a cut. I told him just to make sure his daughter is in the picture so I can have an out.

I'm both happy and sad there is no marching bands in my area. Sad because I find the stuff entertaining and kinda miss watching and listening. Happy because I've put up with this bullshit before. I have not an ounce of athletic talent, so I marched for five years.

Two hours per day, five days per week for 10 minutes at halftime. I was fit and in good cardio health due to the constant movement plus playing a wind instrument. That said ...

    IT'S NOT A FUCKING SPORT!
