I feel your pain my friend. Staying on the wagon is a tough thing to do while dealing with a situation like yours. I had a similar (although not as bad as yours) situation during the summer and after not smoking for two months and running a mile in the morning, I smoked a whole pack of cigarettes the same night. Like you, I felt like shit, but unlike you I just didn't care and kept smoking.

Don't let her win and force you back to smoking to deal. You're better than that.

Thanks. My main problem is getting over the depression - the "so what, who cares, why bother" attitude. With the spring just around the corner, I'm hoping to spend more time outdoors, start riding my bike again to help when cravings come.

    You're right about that.

I know I'm trying to better myself with spring and summer just around the corner. I haven't had a smoke since Jan. 30 and Monday I'm going to start working out. I always feel better physically and mentally when I'm active. Plus losing a few LBs should help finding a new lady friend. Like I said KM, don't give your ex the satisfaction of letting her know she got to you. Trust me I did that back in the summer and through the fall and all it did was hold me back.

  4. I just bought a box of patches today that I keep around for particularly hard days ... they tend to make me feel like crap for hours at a time ... anyone try the lozenges yet?

The first time I quit, I used the patch (I was probably too young to do it anyway, but what the hell; it worked for a couple years). Some things to keep in mind with those:
    1. They don't stick for shit, especially if you have any tendancy to sweat at all. I found putting them on my bicep and using a small amount of ankle wrap usually worked well. No one would see it unless you go sleeveless.
    2. If you are not used to smoking right before bed, its probably not a good idea to wear it to bed. You will have some vivid ass dreams, and you will find yourself with some pretty fucked up nightmares.

Good luck all, and keep it up.

I wore it to bed the first time I used the patch (it helped stop craving that first-thing-in-the-morning smoke) and I actually looked forward to my vivid dreams.

  8. I do to sometimes cuz otherwise I rarely remember dreams. But it usually depends on what time I have to wake up.

Right now my heart won't stop pounding so I can't fall asleep.

I haven't found much of a diary on this anywhere, but anyone have any idea when the tar will stop coming up first thing in the morning? Don't get me wrong, its much better than feeling like my chest is going to implode, but its still pretty f-ing gross.

  11. Three or four days, usually, for me ... maybe a bit more after a run.

as gross as it is, put paper cups with tissue paper inside next to your bed. sometimes it was the middle of the night for me. and since they were paper, i didn't feel bad throwing them away after a single use in the morning.

it was more like a coupla weeks for me.
