Around 3 a.m. tonight, I'll have gone a week without chewing tobacco. I think I'm pulling it off this time. :)

Started on the Chantix drug Monday, and I gotta say, going pretty good so far.

For no real reason today, I smoked about half what I normally would. The instructions with the meds say to start taking the pills and set a quit date for a week later. You're supposed to smoke like you normally would -- or at least put no effort into quitting -- until that time.

But four days in, I'm down half a pack. I just didn't think about smoking as often. And when I did, it was weird -- like I wasn't getting any satisfaction from smoking. Three times I threw the cigarette out less than halfway through it.

  3. My wife's been trying to get me to try that but I heard it's expensive ... does your insurance cover it?

My doctor gave me the Chantix with no directions to phase out the chewing. I stopped cold turkey.

And in the time since, I've not had one physical pang for nicotine. If there's been anything, it's been mental.

And wb, my insurance covered it.

  5. Thanks, I'll try that if the cravings get harsh.

I tried Welbutrin once. Doctor said to quit in a week. It took away the joy of smoking but not the desire, so guess which one I quit first ...

My insurance did not cover it, which is completely unimaginable to me. What screwed up insurance company wouldn't cover a stop-smoking drug? Any stop-smoking drug?

Anyway, it wasn't that expensive. First month's supply was right $100. That's three cartons of cigs.

Everyone I've talked to that's tried this drug has quit after the week, except for one or two cigarettes here or there, and didn't refill after the month. And I've heard absolutely no one say the drug didn't work for them. The closest to that I've heard is the dipshit husband of one of my wife's friends decided he didn't want to quit smoking. So, a week in, the drug was working great and he had stopped. But he decided he liked himself better as a smoker. Dumbest shit I've ever heard.

Doc and I are moving to a city that has phased smoking out of bars, restaurants and public buildings, including hotels and apartment complexes. We will be quitting. I don't think we'll do it cold turkey, but we'll do it nonetheless.

Makes no sense to me. Our insurance covered it completely.

Crazy - I just saw this thread yesterday.
Says it started a month or two ago.
Anyhow, I am on my 13th day of cold turkey quitting.
Hasn't been to tough, after getting past the first day. I'd usually have one right before I went to bed, out on the back porch.
I've been out drinking socially, and I golfed 18 holes yesterday.
Waiting on the tee-box was also a place to perhaps light up.
One day at a time, then one month, year .. ..

Welcome to the club, Blitz. You'll be glad that you did it.

I ate half a bag of Jelly Belly's the other night. Much better that smoking. Last night was a big test. I covered state track for six different papers. Now that was stress. I missed deadline by four minutes on one, so not too bad. The ledes weren't the greatest, and I might have made some errors. But the key fact is that I was able to drive home without stopping for a stress-breaker cigarette.

Unfortunately, my mother-in-law is still smoking. It makes my wife quite upset. I told her she needs to confront her mother, but she refuses. If she doesn't confront her, I don't think anyone else will. I think this is more of a test than anything. Now that she has cancer, she wants to test the family to see just how much people need her around.

I'm on day 129 of no smoking after quitting cold turkey. I must say, Oreos and Twizzlers helped me get through it in the beginning. ;D
