All right. I'm late to the party, but I am trying for the third time in my life to quit smoking. Thank goodness for my nicotine lozenges. I will be eating them like candy for at least 2 weeks.

    Good luck, Angola.

I had to give up coffee for a year in order to break my nic tic. I may now enjoy a cup of joe without having a smoke in the other hand.

The key, though, is realizing how much better life is without the addiction.

One of my buddies says he could turn my quitting (and not quitting) into a reality show.

After 10 years of smoking, I quit Feb. 20, only to start smoking again in late May just before I got married.
After returning to smoking every day, I've decided to give up the everyday smoking again. I had one last night after a huge meal, but other than that, I haven't had one since Tuesday. My intention is to go without unless I go out drinking or something.

    Here we go again...

Hey, I'm off the wagon again. With my dumb, dumb ass. And cigs are up again too.

I made it eight months, then shit happened and I folded like a two-dollar suitcase.
    Damn those fuckers taste good.

I am trying again. I haven't smoked since Tuesday. I've decided to try and keep most of my routines the same, such as drinking coffee and drinking alcohol when I feel like it - maybe it isn't the brightest way to do it, but so far so good.
Oh, and I cheat. I use nicotine lozenges.

I had a piece of nicorette on Wednesday. Mostly, though, I used flavored toothpicks.

I have used chocolate. It's worked out well. I weigh about a bazillion pounds.

Strangely, I did super until my mother-in-law went into the hospital for surgery to remove part of her lung. As odd is it to imagine, the stress of her cigarette-caused cancer drove me to smoke two packs over three days. That was 43 days ago, and I haven't smoked since. Trust me, though, on this: if you can find Perugira Delizia Italian chocolates, get the ones with the truffle centers. I've found them at Publix.

It had occurred to me until I saw MU's post that my repeated bronchial/throat infections have subsided. No sign of them now. That's a huge relief.

I have a slight alergy to chocolate, so that's out. I'm hoping working out will curb most of it, and the toothpicks will do the rest.
If I still want to have one when I'm out drinking, I'm not going to make a huge deal about it unless I feel I need one when I'm sober. We'll see.

day 18 without chew but using a patch...my wife's family had a big blowup last weekend and i decided at least half of them were too fucked up for me to talk to them again for a while and i've had her crying on my shoulder on three of the last four days about it.

i had wanted to chew more than anything else on earth...it just helps me find my calm little focus in life. i am a lot nicer person when i'm chewing. chewed at work, chewed at home, chewed while driving, did everything but fuck and sleep with a chew in.

but i happened to get papillon from my online blockbuster account at the beginning of the week and i watched it on wednesday. there is a line from dega in the movie where he says, 'a temptation resisted is a true measure of character.'

and for some reason it has helped me through the last couple of days. like now the can of chew called me a fat fuck and i'm repeatedly kicking it in the balls asking if it has anything else it it wants to say.

that and sunflower seeds...moutains of sunflower seeds.

I figure going through my first Friday football night smoke-free will be a good test tonight. It's been at least 2 years since I was smokeless on a Friday football night.

After nine months of being a non-smoker I let anger and frustration take over and have been smoking lately. :(
