Oh, and I think Thug Passion is wack. Sorry. The other emcees ruin it.

Picture Me Rollin, Shorty Wanna Be A Thug and others are way better.

You said it. I don't mind Thug Passion, but I hardly think of it as a Tupac song, with all the other rappers.

Big fan of Shorty Wanna be a Thug.

The horns in that song are awesome.

Agree with what? That we're all turning him into a saint, ready to annoint him as holy?

    Because that's crap.

That you think he sucks? That's your prerogative.

the dude in the middle is Stretch - he was on Hellrazor (my favorite off of R U Still Down) and he's the cat that Pac was with he got shot in NY...and one of the reasons dude 1. didnt appear on any more of Pac's tracks after Pain, and 2. why he was killed shortly after that initial shooting in NY.

as for Pain - you can find it on CD, and not on bootlegs.

    it is a great track.

Starin Through My Rearview off the Gang Related sdtk is a sleeper classic - the mixtape version where they cut out the Outlawz and loop in Phil Collins' chorus from "In The Air Tonight" is haunting. (it's the song sampled in the Pac track).

Ain't Nothin But A Gangsta Party is currently playing on XM 65.

Break out the champaign glasses and MFn condoms...

    Seriously, though...
I'm torn on the Biggie vs. Pac arguement and I'm a huge Pac fan. When Biggie was at his best (Kick in the Door immediately comes to mind), nobody comes close. He was, however, terribly inconsistent as are most artists.
To say Pac wasn't is pure bull. That's part of made him great. He wasn't consistent. In anything. There is more than enough filler on All Eyez on Me and most of the recent "new releases" are pure filler.
When he was in his prime, though. Damn.

I know who Stretch is. He has a whole song about him on "All Eyez On Me."

"Pain" may have surfaced on one of those Afeni-peddled CDs -- once I heard how she and the labels were butchering those songs, I gave up. I still bump the Makaveli bootlegs though.

Anyway, when "Above the Rim" came out and thereafter, that song was hella rare. I had it on CD single and sold it for $75 to some Pac-crazed kid. I also have "Pain" on 12".

  9. It's funny how most of the favorite songs people have quotes in this threat are from "All Eyez On Me," the album that started his downfall. Production-wise, that was probably his best album. Lyrically - which is why so many people claim to love Pac - that was his worst album. He had pressure from Death Row to produce a straight-up gangsta album. There's some great songs on that album, even some great writing. But all in all, it doesn't come close to comparing to his first three albums.

In my opinion, Me Against the World was Pac at his height. He wrote most of it while in the midst of his legal problems, I believe, after being shot and it was as honest as can be. It was a compassionate individual being completely honest about his shortcomings and faults. It was true poetry.

I still like "Changes" best. I thought Shakur was a good one. He was telling the straight stuff. I hate that some people write off damn near all rap music because it's rap music. I think bigotry is behind at least some of that.

Back in the day, there was some very real shit being discussed in rap. It's a joke now for the most part, but it's not fair to lump modern-day posers with legit writers like Shakur. He was excellent.

(I keep thinking about that Chappelle skit, too. Funny as hell.)
