Canzano had the balls to explain himself and he gets ripped by a bunch of folks who couldn't carry his fucking laptop.

So just because he explains himself, we can't disagree? That seems a bit weird.

Disagree, yes. Lecture and vilify, I don't think so.

Act as you say or act as you do? Help me out here.

Do be careful though, because not all of us (just most, it seems) are ripping him.

Also, I would be more than happy to carry his laptop. Especially if I got to pick his brain while I did.

However, I also think it seems like you're picking fights with specific people purely for the purpose of picking fights.

And if the local pro team paid me 80,000 clams to work their stories on the desk, by all means come down on me like a ton of bricks.

If the rip fits, wear it. If it doesn't fit, then don't sweat it. The comments meant to criticize _ nay, VILIFY _ Canzano's critics will bounce off their thick heads anyway.

So if you think it's wrong to have a financial relationship with someone you cover, you're holding yourself up as perfect? That's your logic here, SockPuppet?

That's another thing ... there's a reason Canzano was chosen for this gig and the $80,000 and it ain't because he's a pushover

For what it's worth taking money directly from a source is wrong. Taking money from a source indirectly is where it gets interesting.
You can paint it with a broad brush and say never, but you also have to look at the local angle, determine the degrees away and a thousand other things.
I think in the case of Canzano, it was determined that it was a sufficient number of degrees away and safeguards were put in to guarantee editorial independence.
While on a much smaller scale, I don't think it is much more different than Howie Kurtz getting a check from CNN to do a media criticism show.
Nobody would look at Kurtz and call him Ted Turner's whore.
To say that it only happens in sports is wrong as well. Just see above or the political shows or op/ed columnists hosting local talk radio shows.
This is an argument that should have happened 50 years ago or whenever it was when Meet the Press debuted. Now it is just talking to talk, this horse left the barn decades ago.

JW how thick are you? I'm far from perfect. You and the others questioning Canzano are the ones who are looking in the Perfect Mirror and seeing a handsome reflection. Take care of your ethics _ which shouldn't take much effort since you're perfect _ and the rest of us will take care of ours.
