Radio, newspaper, and my ethics

    The newspaper biz isn't going in the shitter because of ethical debates. To think so is to use the same absence of logic that our company executives have used to put us in this position.

    Debate the ethics of it all you want, but to equate it to the "State of the Newspaper Industry" is absurd.

    Giving away your product for free on the Internet might be a bigger problem than conflicts of interest.

    Then why give your columnists away for free on radio and television?

    A valid question, but one that has nothing to do with ethics.

    Except insofar as the excuse used for the abrogation of ethics - especially in this particular case - is that it's to everyone's benefit. The paper allows the columnist to make a questionable ethical move to a radio operation held by the team owner - at least in part because it's seen as a way to further promote the paper and increase circulation.
