I think teams just don't want to risk an injury to their quarterback. Punters can be put in some vulnerable positions. I imagine some teams would be a lot more aggressive going after a punter who was also the team's starting quarterback.

Randall Cunningham did it a few times per season. Danny White was Dallas's primary punter in the '80s.

I'm not sure about current quarterbacks. Ben Roethlisberger has punted six times in his career though only once since he had one blocked in 2014. I think Kordell Stewart ended up filling in for an entire game once.

Always punted a lot at Stanford. Tom Tupa came into the league as a QB/P and settled in as a P for a long career. as

I love the strategy of a quick kick, but something tells me we won't see many of them in a league where each possession is highly valued.

Charlie Ward famously was FSU’s punter his freshman season. 37 ypp.

Back to names, another punter: Bryan Barker.

Plus, if your quarterback gets hurt, then you have to hope for someone else to be competent as the punter, or have another punter on the roster anyways.

Stewart did fill in as punter for a game when he was with the Ravens against the Jets and did relatively well.
