    You're extremely fortunate not to be elderly or cursed with a disease that makes your hands tremble so much you can't safely drink from a cup without a straw.

    That being said, there's nothing wrong with paper straws. They worked for decades.

    About 5 years ago during our Disney World trip, we stayed at one of the hotels in Disney's Animal Kingdom. Straw were all paper because they were fearful of plastic straws winding up in with the animals. The rest of the resort used plastic.

    Try drinking a milkshake with a paper straw. It's like eating the napkin that's around your ice cream cone.
