I'm pissed off at coffee, right now.

See, when I get to work, I pour myself a mug of coffee, but it's entirely too hot to drink at that point. I'm not one of those people who take tentative sips while waiting for it to cool off a bit. The problem is, I wait too long and by the time I actually get to drinking the coffee, it's too cold.

Cold coffee tastes like ass with sugar poured over it, so I just can't abide that.

I tried using some ice, but it always leaves a watery taste to the coffee.

    Life.

I still feel sad when I wake up in the morning. But I am not allowing myself to contact The Boy for at least a week. I have to stay off his blog too. That counts as communication, particularly since I know he tracks visitors.

I've been looking at my ex's blog. I don't know if she tracks visitors. I've been pleased to see that there's no "I'm miserably depressed" or "Death to writing irish" posts. Then again, she usually doesn't get too personal with her posts. It's weird being the dumper instead of the dumpee. I miss her very much, but knowing I'll never have to justify myself in front of her family again is going a long way toward numbing the pain.

Are you a reader, PD? When I got dumped in 2005, part of my healing involved reading the works of Isabel Allende (I'd never read her before). Magical realism made my mind think about other things. Plus, since a lot of her stories involved people fighting or running from despotic governments, my own troubles seemed less weighty. I think I blazed through most of her novels in about four months.

A concept no other generation had to confront.

Woodward and Bernstein are making up the panel that was cancelled because of the ice storm in January.

    I'm hungry.

A co-worker who just returned from a week in Texas is wearing a spankin' new burnt-orange hat with a virgin white longhorn. I want to ask him how that whole Kevin Durant Player of the Year talk is going these days, but that would just be rubbing it in.

That said, I'm prepared for UNC to ramrod USC, the way Oregon did in the Pac 10 title game.

Sounds like your soldier is enlisting ...

We never talked about that during our eight seconds of passion!

Aim for one month, even. More separation, the better.

My suggestion is to go to the gym, PaperDoll, and work it out. Get the endorphins moving. Sweat. Tire yourself. Go to Borders and people-watch in the cafe. Go to a hospital and read books to patients. So much out there to do.

Another random thought: I love being able to share the SportsJournalists.com experience with my dad, the man who basically introduced me to the business and got me going. Now if I could just get him to post more often.

    AlleyDad, please post!

(P.S. You were right on about the communication deal.)

    UT,

You have the new date for the Woodstein thing? As you know I wanted to go in January.
