mrs. petty just ran to the store for a coupla hours, kids are next door at the neighbor's, janice j. is on the stereo medium-loud, the nfl draft is on espn, cocktail in hand, 48 hours remaining on vacation ... awwwwww, tomas likes life right now.

done. and the last time i checked the water level -- which is topped off with a coupla pounds of chopped up pears and sugar -- it was looking mighty good.

the side dish is gonna be chopped up red potatos, onions and garlic in tin foil right next to the brisket. any suggestions of what to use to soak the side dish in while it cooks?
