Forgive me; I've been dwelling in deep personal catharsis of late. But I can't get over the idea that somehow revealing deep-seated emotions, hopes and fears is viewed as the exposition of "the real you" when all of the real people I know hide like hell from those emotions, hopes and fears. I think the hiding, the burying, is a distinctively human trait, a very real trait that may be one of our most important advances in evolution. Opening up leads to vulnerability, which inevitably leads to pain. Maybe it sounds better in some psychology textbook or coming-of-age movie to speak to the importance of coming clean, but bottling up is even more essential in most cases.

 

Jack in the Box used to be my go-to place. Lately I hate the thought of going there, mainly because I discovered Raising Cane's, but also because the service sucks at my nearest Jack's anymore.
