If normal people act irrational in their mid-life crises, will Dennis Rodman's mid-life crisis involve wearing sweater vests, listening to "All Things Considered" and "A Prairie Home Companion", training show poodles and driving Volvo station wagons?

I had an apt quote from Tropic Thunder for a thread but I can't add it.

  3. We should have another SportsJournalists.com novel thread.

I'd suggest a starting plot of a female manatee falling in love with a human - let's call him Buck. The prayers of the manatee are magically answered and she becomes human. Through a series of misunderstanding she adopts the name "Julia Child".

Her love Buck does not find her particularly attractive - mainly because Julia Child stands 6'2" but she doesn't give up. Buck loves nothing more than eating so Julia Child learns to cook. In fact she becomes world renown. Still Buck does not return her love.

Turns out Buck can only love dolphins.

Growing up, we had two window A/C units for our house, one upstairs and one downstairs.

The upstairs one was in my parents room. In a halfhearted effort to get them to move it into my hotter-than-blazes bedroom, I once asked them, "Doesn't the noise make it hard to sleep?"

My dad replied, "Oh, it helps drown out the noise you kids make."

Looking back, as a now-40-year-old, I think I realize what noises it drowned out ...

For months I thought "Lieslntx" meant "Lies in Texas."
As in: Wow, there must be a lot of lies told 'round there.

And then one day someone referred to Liesl directly in a post ...

A singles mixer can contain a surprisingly high number of poli sci concepts including:

    competing interests
    messaging
    allocation of funds
