Every year I look at a list of births from 100 years ago and marvel at people who theoretically could be alive if they’d made it to the century mark.

Don Knotts, Truman Capote, Rod Serling, Tom Landry, William Rehnquist, George Mikan, Alexander Haig and Jack Buck are the standouts for 2024.

We don’t get to RFK until 2025. As someone who is 39, the thought that RFK could still be on earth is kinda mindblowing (probably not so much for those of you a bit older and homestly he has an equivalent in Carter). I wish he was around to give his son a giant whack on the head.

Can't put this on the books thread, as I haven't read it, but, wow, the story Suzanne Heywood has to tell. A British civil servant, her parents forced her to live on a sailboat for more than a decade as a child as they sailed around the world. A truly miserable existence as she was cut off from friends and school from the ages of 6 to 17.

Cleaning out a 100+ year old farm is like cutting the head off a hydra.

I'd settle for getting my garage under control.

My lovely wife and I bit the bullet last month and rented one of those large haul-away dumpsters you see on construction sites or house builds. We have two walk-in attics in the house, a storage shed outside, a two-car garage that was getting crowded and after nearly 20 years and a family, we had a lot of accumulation in and out of the house. We had the dumpster in the driveway for a week, did a little each evening after work and a lot on a weekend, and damn near filled it up. It was actually a little sad seeing it hauled off that day, but we're so grateful we pulled together and did this. The empty nest is a little emptier, but we came across a lot of memories and made ourselves feel good for practically giving our home and its living spaces a bit of a new start.

A thought not worthy of finding the country music thread for:

They use a lot of the reverb effect in Nashville.

It blows me away to know that Anne Frank and Martin Luther King were born the same year, 1929. If they had lived, they would be 94, just like Bob Newhart.
