That does make me feel a little better :).

My parents did mellow out quite a bit as I got older, though the no-dating rule was still enforced. Once I hit my teenage years, it was more "don't do anything stupid, which is pretty much every teenage impulse you have" more than finding "89 Reasons Jesus Will Return in 1989" on my Dad's desk and having it terrify me.

What really made me feel better was the following chain of events:
Now Friend Zoned with that girl, I was sort of inducted into her circle of friends that included a couple of people who are still my oldest friends.

It also included another guy who Datey McFakeout had Friend Zoned (though without the lead-on), and a month or two later he started dating this really cool woman. Two years later, he cheated on her, breaking off their engagement. Circle of friends took an unspoken vote and realized we liked her way more than him, so she got sort of absorbed in. Two years after that, she became Mrs. Stain.

Random thought unrelated to this, other than it relates to something else I haven't done since college: I haven't been asleep in roughly 35 hours.

OK. Why haven't you slept in roughly 35 hours?

I just get wicked bouts of insomnia. Though this is the worst one in ages.

I sometime sleep while my son is at school in the mornings, so I got up at round 11 a.m. on Wednesday. Then I was up with him all through the day until he went to sleep around 9 p.m. I found that I just didn't feel like sleeping until about 4 a.m., at which point I did that *stupid* thing people do when they are insomniacs and figured "well, I have to be up in two hours anyway, no reason to even go to sleep."

Then I had to be up all day again, running errands and working with my son. He fell asleep about 90 minutes ago, and for some reason I'm just not tired. I should really go lay down, but this is the only period of peace and quiet I get most days.

Wow. That stinks...I can sleep on the drop of a hat...my wife is learning now with a child how to do that as well.

I credit working 7 jobs in college...and one of them was board op for Public Radio. Egg timer and a rolled up sweatshirt and I was golden between the words "This....is Weekend Edition."

back in October, FOX had Joe Buck call a 49ers game in the afternoon and a Giants NLCS game in the evening and showed him hopping on a streetcar to get from one stadium to the other. Mike Breen is calling both the Lakers and Clippers game today, so will ESPN show him walking back to the media workroom, grabbing a sandwich, stopping in the bathroom, then walking back out to the court?

It's Christmas here in the newsroom and we have "regular" deadlines again. That means midnight. However, aside from waiting on the 8 p.m. NBA game and the Miami-Indiana State gamer (HOPEFULLY) I'm done.

I guess I'll just sit here and wait and collect that time and a half.

    I'm watching "It's a Wonderful Life" again.

While I never, ever want to see this movie remade, I am curious as to how the inflation and cost-of-living increases have affected it. $5k for a house? $2k cash outlay for a bank in a day?

And "Zuzu" would a really good dog name.

I need to invent a button (maybe like for a key chain) that plays:
    1) an 80's sitcom audience laugh track
    2) The Price is Right loser "song"
    3) A Rim-shot

Because, being the smart-ass that I am, I need these 3 sounds many times a day to be snarky toward co-workers after they say either
    1) Something THEY (and only they) think is funny
    2) Bitch about their computer
    3) I say a great one liner
