I left the house last night to go to the gym and there was a little dog sniffing around the backyard. He was particularly interested in the bloody areas from my own dog, where he spurted a bit after I cut one of his claws too close (yes, I apologized). He was an awfully scared little dog when I tried to talk to him.
Upon further review and research, it was a coyote.

I would prefer to have both come over to my house. But if I had to choose, frankly I would go for the Cowgirls because of the ass-less chaps.

I did it. I covered 6 games today/tonight. By cover I mean appeared at 6 different sites to photograph each one and cover the part of the game/event I was there for; for which I was there. We're a weekly, so we went to press last night. Today the cycle starts anew. Two years ago I covered 5 girls hoops game in one night and turned it into a double-truck feature with photos galore and a story of the journey to and fro. People still ask me about it, which is cool.

Today/tonight the stakes were raised to 6 games/events, starting with a boys hockey game at 5:40. Local team, the 2-time defending D-I champion with 17 returners yet has been getting bitch-slapped so far this season, returned to form and took a 3-0 lead after the 1st period. I got my shots and really enjoyed watching the boys skate hard. They earned all 3 goals through hustle and hard skating.

Next up was the season opener for ski jumping. We're the only state that still offers the sport. But winter still hasn't arrived in northern New England, and there wasn't enough snow to make up the jump and landing, so it was cancelled. I started to walk back toward my car, but I thought there was a story to be had. I walked back up a trail to the jumper's cabin and interviewed a few seniors, and an 11-year-old boy who's starting his ski-jumping career. Got pictures of the kids shoveling and dragging snow to the smaller jumps. Cool.

Now it's time to drive to a local-v-local age-old rivarly boys hoops game, about 5 minutes down the road. I get there 10 seconds before tipoff. Sweet. Stay for the 1st quarter and get my shots.

Time for Game No. 4, the girls' version of local-v-local age-old rivalry, at the other school, about 7 minutes down the road. Get there early in the 2nd quarter. Barnburner, as always. Get my shots. Girl from one team hits a 3-pointer at the halftime horn.

Hop in the car and head into Vermont for the final 2 games at the same school, girls hockey and girls hoops. Walk into the gym and the hoops game has just begun halftime, so I walk to the rink and get there 2 minutes before the 3rd period starts. Sweet. Coach lets me stand in the corner of the box to take ice-level photos. He's cool that way. Plus, his team is winning by 4 goals. I stay for 7 1/2 minutes and get shots I need.

Time for Game No. 6, breaking my record. I walk back to the gym. Late in the 3rd quarter. Barnburner. Several lead changes. Get my shots and chicken scratch play by play. Stay for the entire 4th quarter. Local team gives it away at the end and loses by a bucket.

Wasn't sure if I could get to all 6 games/events. I don't believe in god, but instead a "good orderly direction," and that direction flowed beautifully from 5:40 to 8:55 p.m. Some days this business is so fucking awesome.
