Attended Sunday's round of the Nissan Open.

In addition to the top golfers in the world, I briefly chatted with Johnny Mathis, an avid golf fan and one of the best singers of all time.

The day after the New Jersey Devils defeated Dallas to win the 2000 Stanley Cup, I was flying home to Toronto and this stunning blonde was in line just in front of me.

When we got onto the plane, she struggled to get her bag into the overhead compartment. I pulled the old, "Excuse me, let me give you a hand with that." She smiled, holy shit was she good looking -- very natural too. I get to my aisle set three rows down and across from me is this 75-year-old woman.

She smiles and delivers one of the funniest lines I've ever heard: "Smooth move, young man. But you've got no chance with her."

I laugh. "Probably not," I say, "But how come you're so sure?"

The woman looks at me and says, "You mean you don't know who she is?"

She told me the name, and I didn't know who it was. It turned out she was flying to Toronto to do a live show on MuchMusic (our MTV). A few weeks later, I saw her on the cover of Maxim and her career took off.

    Jessica Simpson.

That guy didn't happen to enjoy spaghetti sauce, did he?

Yep. Straight from the Betsy Crocker cookbook.

I heard that's a good sauce. Someone could make a fortune on it and then sell it to a gold-digging bitch before they get sued, teaching that little Punky a lesson. Hypothetically speaking, of course.

Saw Gabriel Byrne at a pub in Lexington, KY. (I'm a huge Miller's Crossing fan, so this was something for me.)
Saw Katie Holmes (pre-Cruise, pre-legal, in fact) at a club in Vegas once. Reggie Miller was in the same club. And Hunter Thompson was yelling into a cell phone in the lobby of the hotel. Fun trip.

Sat in front of Carrot Top on an Orlando-Charlotte flight.

Not even six months after I got into the biz, I thought I killed him.
It was Duke-Carolina, at Carolina. Anyone who has been in Chapel Hill's press box knows the bathroom is in the media room, and opens up into the room.
I am coming out, not thinking about what I am doing and throw the door out like I am in a neighborhood saloon and head out.
Before I could look up, the door and me were hitting Vitale square-on. Turns out he had been next in line.
He still looks great in TV, but can look frail at times, in person.
I immediately apologized. He just laughs, pats me on the back and says "It's ok Baby, We're all excited. It should be a good one."

Saw him a year later, he comes up, pats me on the back again and asks me how I am doing.

Ha! I saw this thread was revived and remembered the time my buddies and I went to Pizza Hut and saw Ivan Lendl and his family eating dinner in a booth.

Missed this thread earlier ... I sat next to Jennie Finch on a nine-hour plane ride this summer.

    I've had worse trips.
