Red Robin is grub. When I was at University of Washington, for the year I went there, me and my buddies would go to the original one not far from campus. The bottomless fries are great, the burgers are excellent, they have good milkshakes but the best drink is the strawberry lemonade with real strawberries.

Burgerville's marionberry shakes in the summer are excellent.

I like Red Robin quite a bit for what it is ... a family burger joint with beer.

There's one in my hometown and it's pretty lively when I drop in.

No matter how crowded with people trying to get a table, there always seems to be room at the bar.

The burgers? I have no idea. I always seem to wind up eating something else on the menu.

    And fries. Lots of fries.

  4. When I'm in the mood for the Whiskey River BBQ or Royal Red Robin (with the egg) burgers, I go to Red Robin. I'll go to Five Guys or a local place if I want a standard kind.

Can't eat in RR, though, unless it's after 9. Walking restaurant mascots scared the crap out me when I was a kid, and I don't like 'em now.

Fuddruckers used to be a standard with my family for the "Kids Eat Free" promotion, but after I stopped looking like a 12-year-old, we stopped going.

Kid Valley's peanut butter milk shake on the shores of Lake Washington is very good and Burgermaster has very good shakes as well.

Love the joint. But my wife's glares keep me from the "bottomless" part of the bottomless fries, so that kinda sucks.

Just finished my 1st trip to 5 Guys, much better than Red Robin and Fuddruckers. Not even close.

They opened one in my town and I went there with my wife, kids, and another family. I was pretty disappointed - it was really nothing special and it was the noisest restaurant I had ever been in.

If they'd only come to Massachusetts...

Wow, I didn't know Whataburger now goes from Arizona to Florida.

    http://www.whataburger.com/one_near_you.php

But they are mainly in Texas (there are 22 of them in Corpus Christi!) and close to the border in neighboring states. They are growing rapidly in AZ and FL, but they are still few in number in between these 3 centers.

I have taken hockeybeat to Red Robin and Five Guys on successive Saturdays.

Red Robin is the unquestioned winner.

I didn't think much of Five Guys' cheeseburger or the much-praised french fries -- particularly at the price. I don't understand how it could've been included on so many cities' "Cheap Eats" lists. The free peanuts were a lovely appetizer though.

I suspect 'beat will chime in when he finally makes it home.
