At first I thought I misread this. Then I read it again and thought, Nope, you got it right, buddy.

So exacto knives are cool but needles are a problem.

I also have two -- one a homage to my home state; the other my kids' names -- and regret neither. I'll get at least two more, something to memorialize my parents. My wife's name/picture will go on me eventually.

I have no tattoos, but I have a LOT of SCARS, and each one tells a story.

Plus, they are free, or at most, a copay.

No chance in hell I would ever let someone near me with a needle for anything other than a vaccination.

Draw blood for a test? Get an IV? Transfusion?

Glad you are pro-vax. I've said this before, but I have a colleague who has polio. As a kid, he missed out on the vaccine by just a few months. He's severely limited with a mechanized wheelchair that he drives with a joystick.

Well, yeah, blood tests too. Get those every once in a while. Never had an IV or a transfusion.

I'll take whatever vaccinations are on offer. The worst I ever had to endure were the typhoid shots and a gamma globulin that felt like molasses being shoved into my body.

I still have a one-inch scar on my right palm from eighth grade when one of my best friends blocked a head-slap with his pencil. The doctor proceeded to move the broken-off pencil point under the muscle with his tweezers, and they wound up having to make an incision to get to it.

I show my friend that scar every class reunion.

I have four scars, all on my face.

I guess I was too handsome for the universe, so it took some steps to remedy that.
