Reid: Gundy's rant ruined my life

Discussion in 'Sports and News' started by sportschick, Apr 11, 2008.

  1. Are you saying they were made for each other?

    Rare traits among columnists.

That's wasn't my profile. Read his last posts and that dude was way too fired up and uses the word "asshat" way to much. I don't like Carlson's style, but I don't support Gundy's public rant like that dude did.

Cute to see folks sign up just grind an ax.

funny enough, Houston Nutt's alma mater is Oklahoma State. he transferred there from Arkansas due to a lack of playing time.

Great story, though a bit too long.
    Really interesting read.
The SWAC can indeed be a good landing point for Reid.
Steve McNair was a dandy out of that league and now T.Jax with the Vikings has done well.

From all I've heard out Big 12 way, Gundy and Leach are two assholes to deal with.
I've never met either one, though. Just opinions from the street.
Good luck to Reid as his growing pains continues.
After all, he and the co-eds at the party and his friend - they are all just young, 20-something kids. Still growing. Still maturing.

Notice all the times in Friend's story that Reid was ready to quit?

Is that the kind of guy you'd want running your team?

And, really, none of this has to do with Jenni Carlson's column. Her column was emasculating and patently unfair, and she sure as hell wasn't doing it in collusion with Gundy.

  9. If the facts were accurate (and some at least came from Gundy), then what was unfair about it?

Look up the original thread on it. Plenty of fine analysis right there.

This seems like a silly reason not to do the story. In fact, it seems to be exactly the reason the story -- or the idea of it, at least -- is worthwhile and compelling.

People all over the country are still quoting this rant, even though many have no idea who Gundy and Reid are. Friend's piece provides some perspective and some background on the principals, and on the rant itself. And yet some here argue that because an average asshat in the mezzanine section at Madison Square Garden can't give you Gundy's name, this story is useless?

That's interesting journalistic logic -- the only good story subjects are people everyone already knows everything about. I guess we all need to get back to work on those Tiger Woods and Derek Jeter profiles...

No one does the "fawning apologia for troubled athlete" genre better than Friend. Essentially, he's made a career out of it.

Of course, 95% of the time, it's bullshit. Usually, "troubled athletes" are troubled athletes for very good reasons: they're stupid, selfish, egocentric, drug-addicted, drunks, lazy, violent, antisocial, maladjusted, immature, pampered, stupid, and stupid. Oh, and did I mention stupid?
