Reporting injuries

  1. If the kid is 17 or older he can speak for himself and there's nothing wrong with a not-so-subtle hint to the parent. I admit I get highly irritated in those situations. Sometimes I'll just call off the interview, say I've got to be somewhere else, and ask the kid if I can call him in a little bit.

    If the kid is 16 or younger, the parent has a right to protect their child from a potentially embarrassing situation. I'm not sure what the rule is in most sports departments, but from the news end I always ask a child's parent for permission to talk to the kid.
