i think i stayed at the big one downtown, the one on fifth ave..... gotta go check out shockoe bottom... great grub, if they've rebuilt it from the last flood.

also the Museum of the Confederacy is a decent way to kill a couple of hours.

There's an assload of nice museums in Richmond, too. And Monument Avenue. And Hollywood Cemetary, which has two dead presidents and a bunch of dead Confederates and is a breeding ground for goths.

Wait, hell, I'm talking to sports journalists. So yes, Shockoe Bottom is pretty much rebuilt and most if not all the bars are open again (Bottoms Up Pizza and Havana 59, my two faves, recently flipped their signs to "open')

If your an ice cream lover, check out Bev's in Carytown (just ask a local).
Carytown is right by the U. of Richmond football stadium, and a little south of the VCU campus.

Anyhow, if you go, get the Espresso Oreo ice cream.
Back when the Kickers were in the USL-1 (A-League), I used to drive up from Atlanta just for Silverbacks game and Espresso Oreo ice cream - it's that good.

Indeed, their Espresso Oreo is good, but their coconut brownie is even better. Best of all, though, is a place in the West End called Gelati Celesti (or Celesti Gelati, I forget now). Gelato in all the colors of the wind, including a drop-dead awesome chocolate-peanut butter. They put oreos in like a dozen flavors that rotate (I personally liked the chocolat-peanut butter marshmallow oreo myself).
