I don't understand why this has to be a binary choice where you either have nothing but sympathy for Amy Winehouse, victim, or you shed "no tears for someone who so flagrantly pisses (their life) away." Or a binary choice between addiction being a disease or a self-destructive act of free will.

Life takes place on a continuum. With all afternoon to reflect, I'm experiencing pretty mixed emotions, which I would like to think is normal.

They tried to make me go to rehab, I said, "No, no, no"
Yes, I've been black but when I come back you'll know, know, know
I ain't got the time and if my daddy thinks I'm fine
He's tried to make me go to rehab, I won't go, go, go

    All righty, then.

Every addict has said those words in some form or another. EVERY ONE.

Not saying I have no sympathy, but to call this a tragedy? Sorry. No. I reserve that one for people who did not bring death upon themselves.

I know the new meme is that "Rehab" is this big pro-drugs, pro-alcoholism song, which isn't really the case. She's playing a character who is saying that her problem isn't the drinking, but what drives her to drink. In other words, that the drinking is just the symptom of underlying problems. It's not an anthem in favor of her lifestyle. It's more complex than that.

oop, that's just a stupid statement. Almost all of us bring death upon ourselves to some extent. By what we eat, what we drink, etc. Some are much more efficient, but we all make plenty of choices that contribute to our demise.

Sorry, but no. I've never been stupid enough to do drugs. I've had my rough moments in life and yet I somehow managed to get by without harming myself like that.

Oh bullshit. Not the same thing as destroying yourself with illegal drugs and even you should be able to grasp that.

What about the Norwegian killer? Maybe he had a tough life as well.

Again, not a tragedy if the person brought it on themselves.

Oop, you live in a world that doesn't exist.
