While one can certainly die from alcohol withdrawal, I would be surprised if her family is correct. I think if death were to occur, it would have been a more immediate reaction. I have a hard time believing she could die after almost a month of abstaining.

Of course, her body was not exactly in the best condition, so I have no idea how her past/present/whatever drug use (and I believe she was having seizures) could have played into it. She was a fucking physical wreck.

That was quite funny. AND HE WOULD HAVE BROUGHT IT ON HIMSELF, SO IT'S NOT A TRAGEDY.

NEW YORK (AP) — Stan Coveleski won his 19th game, pitching a complete game and allowing three runs on seven hits, as the Indians beat the Yankees, 4-3, at the Polo Grounds. Steve O'Neill went 3-for-4 from the plate with a homer and two RBI to help the Indians overcome a fifth-inning injury to shortstop Ray Chapman, who is listed as day-to-day.

So, I'm guessing this is the game where Chapman was killed.

I'm trying to figure out the relevance.

Like I said on the thread that just got deleted, she could be very attractive when she wanted to be. She had that whole Ronnie Spector thing going on.

I was having this debate with my brother at dinner a couple nights ago.

He kept going back to, "She only had one hit song!"

    That's his barometer.

There are different kinds of artists. Not everyone is Katy Perry. The Grateful Dead had one Top 40 single. One.

I probably overrate top-40 success. I guarantee you underrate it.

I don't underrate it for artists who are Top 40 artists.

Amy Winehouse was an album artist with a Top 40 hit.

It's kind of apples to oranges. Wilco sells more records than Top 40 hitmakers. A lot of artists do. It's just a different approach.

I'm not "that guy," if that's what you're implying.

    OK. Point taken.

Plus, I mean, we're talking about someone with five Grammys in one year. To argue, as my dinner companion was doing, that she somehow did not achieve mainstream success, that is a very, very narrow idea of mainstream success. He is truly one of those guys who believes in the Wisdom of the Crowd. Except when it comes to beer. Then Miller Lite sucks and only microbrews are good. I have challenged him many times on this dichotomy, but he takes the Fifth.
