I feel fairly certain the Mets won't blow this lead.

My only lingering doubt is the age of the starting rotation. But Glavine is rarely hurt, and they might add Maddux, who isn't getting any younger but also makes his share of starts.

I'm the biggest Glavine looser fanboy there is. But until he finds his second wind (probably around mid-August), stick a fork in him for the next couple starts. He's been sucking it up since his start at Dodger Stadium. Oh, he'll turn it around and easily get 16 wins, but the Cy is out of the question now, with the way he's been pitching.

I hereby guarantee the Braves will have a better record than the Indians, by at least eight games.

The rumor is the Braves are going to make a play for Scott Linebrink to come in and solve their late-inning problems.

I wonder why they're not looking at Borowski. Guardado would have been nice for them, too. Mediocre is way better than what they have.

Wasn't Borowski a Brave at one point?

Surely they'll go get a closer now, right? They won't play better all year than they are right now — I'll give you that. But other than LF, I think that's damn good lineup when everyone is healthy. When Chipper is Chipper, that helps, too.

Anyone else think this swing is changing their plans for this season?

If they had guys as mediocre as Alejandro Pena, Brad Clontz or Kevin McGlinchy, they wouldn't be in this predicament.

FSN South's pregame floated what will now be a rumor that the Braves are trying to work a trade with Pittsburgh, possibly Giles for Gonzalez.

Why? For those 70 or so games a year that Giles is actually healthy? The trade makes a lot of sense for the Braves (Gonzalez closes, Betemit takes over at 2B every day), but none for the Pirates.

Betemit has to be an everyday player next year. He has to be. I think he gives them a lot more than Giles does right now.

8-1 Cards in the fifth. Can we restore some sanity to the Braves will win the East mentality that surfaced during their recent hot streak?
