I meant more specifically the Trump fatal error in the story of America. Didn't play that big a part but had a high rank, big clout and was briefly Sec'y of State.

I admired him. Probably not "political" enough - if he ran for anything the left would villify him for Iraq and the right would condemn him for his heresy. Even if 9/11 never happened, it seemed like Cheney had set up a shadow apparatus to move foreign policy in any direction he wanted to and Powell would have just had to deal with it.

Powell endorsed Obama twice, so he was a leper to MAGGAT nation.

    But also had cancer.

A man I very much wanted to admire.

I admired his daughter, Annie, when I worked for her during her stint as an ESPN executive. She was smart and caring.

When Bush brought him into the Secretary of State, I thought he was going to be the adult in the room. Had a ton of respect for him then and it was horribly disappointing he went along with the WMD line. Not sure what possessed him to do it: If Bush/Cheney got to him and made him or if he really believed. I think Woodward’s book said Powell was pushing to get more evidence but they gave him some nonsense and he couldn’t resist any more. It was a real shame because he could have been the first or second Black president if he didn’t get muddied by the WMD nonsense.

But Iraq aside, he was a great man and a leader of men. F cancer, F Covid. F them both. RIP, general.

Once again the black guy was made to take the fall for horrible decisions made by us honkies.

Powell knew better than to go along with it, but I'm sure he was partly blinded by his loyalty to Bush 41 and seeking vengeance.

    RIP.
