We retooled the A-section on the fly and got the first six pages all dedicated to Carter, finished it all off and sent it to press around 8 p.m. Much of it had been in the can, but we still kicked ass and had fun doing it, if only because it was good ol' newspapering again.

    Weeeeeee, doggie.

I love reading this when all of us get a day where we have the adrenaline and the knowledge to do a great job. Nice work, slacker.

NYT says it's federal law for flags to be lowered for 30 days so they will be at half-staff at the inauguration.

Also says Carter's body will be flown to Washington on Jan. 6 and will lie in state at the Capitol -- the same day as the joint session of Congress to count the electoral votes starts at 1 p.m.

Jimmy Carter’s Funeral Will Be Held on Jan. 9 in Washington
