Agreed. But it hammers home that, to some, it's more important to be first than be correct.

Dumb, but some apparently don't understand - or won't.

Just got Paterno's photo with dates along the bottom during the Whalercanes-Isles broadcast.

I blame NBC on Joe DiMaggio ... and, yes, What Moddy Said.

They weren't sourcing it before. They were reporting it as fact. They are now reporting that Onward Whatever.com is reporting the death.

That's what I get for assuming you'd fill in the blank for "sportsline.com"

EDIT: And no, that wasn't a shot at anyone, just in case someone read it wrong.

The "or not" was to correct myself.

And we wonder why our credibility is shot. We F ourselves hard in the A with shit like this. Oh, was it Pat Burns, too?

No worries, I should've put the EDIT in the original post. Not taking any shots at anyone.

For those who missed it, CBS Sports.com had this - his "death" - as their main centerpiece story on the Web site, attributing to "multiple reports."

Why would Onward State be considered an impeccable source? It's still students, for crissakes, even if the site is right on some things.

I think Lee Roy Selmon got the same treatment.

There are probably 25 names we could come up with.

CBS report is wrong - Dad is alive but in serious condition. We continue to ask for your prayers and privacy during this time.
