Do we think someone fooled the National Enquirer? (As in pretended to be Katz?) Or, maybe he didn't realize the person he was talking to was a reporter with the Enquirer?

"Philip Seymour Hoffman friend sues National Enquirer for $50 million over gay lovers claim"

Why would they use the term "gay lovers" ? It seems redundant in this day
    and age.

Can two guys be "straight" lovers? That is pretty pointless.

I think that's poignant, but I still don't think it answers the question everyone wonders: What is it like to do heroin?

I have talked at length with a strong acquintance about his heroin addiction that nearly killed him, and he can't describe it beyond generalities, either.

Could we all describe what it's like to be drunk? It's not as easy as you'd think. I feel really impatient and talkative. I want to listen to loud music. I'll tell anyone anything. At some point, I have a hard time focusing and am not very aware of my surroundings. But even those things don't really explain what it's like.

Because they want to be sure readers can tell that the alleged relationship involves another man by reading only the headline.

But why not just use "lovers"? And wouldn't they be bisexual lovers
since Hoffman had common law wife.

Considering the level of a lot of their readership, I'm surprised it wasn't "...the two were GAY!!!! lovers...."

I don't know this woman and have never heard of her before reading this piece but this reads exactly how I'd expect it to from a person who likely has never had to battle a problem in their life.
Again, don't know her so I won't judge her but that's the vibe I get from reading this swill. It's easy to condemn people for being unable to control their addictions ... when you've never had to go through a similar event in your own life. I only hope she never does.

Be thankful this is your first exposure. If there's a worst writer in the English language, I don't want to see them. She's famous for her sex columns but really they're all horrific.

    Agreed.
This is a joke of a writer who once called Christine Amanpour a "war slut."
Involved in many other embarrassments along the course of her career, as well.
