Every time I hear a Prince song that I haven't heard before,
I kick myself and think: Jeez, I gotta listen to more Prince.

Some folks seem upset that white people liked Prince's music:

Is there an alt-code for the Prince symbol?

See, the cool thing about Prince is he's a rare artist (in an ever-increasing age of media stratification) who drew fans from all backgrounds and all styles of music. When we saw him in Grand Rapids (early 2000s), it was a racially mixed crowd with tastes in music, as they say, "all over the radio dial."

I'm definitely a "rock" guy, but I could appreciate the rap/R&B portions of his show. Prince was a great showman and singer.

And of course, I went crazy when he strapped on a guitar and did an all-Santana songs encore!

Trey Anastasio opened for the Stones when I saw them about a decade ago. That seemed like the longest six hours of my life.

I just don't get four minutes of repeating four bars of music while a bunch furries run around the stage. The last minute suggested there was a jam to be had.

Perhaps the greatest tribute to Prince is that he never lost his "edge" as his career progressed. Most artists "dumb" their stuff down to reach a wider audience, or get so "weird" they lose their original audience. He continued to evolve and continued to gain new generations of fans without softening his music.

We said the same thing about Bowie, too. They were alike in that respect.
