Read this a day or two ago, and it seems pretty shaky. If I was editing that, I'd have a shit-ton of questions.

It's the Daily Mail. It's not real "news."

I think that Prince had so much music going on in his head that he had moved past an album by the time it came out and was already on the next concept/genre.

I think he was really interested in how music was distributed in the new media era and how artists could continue to make a living doing this. I recall getting the "Musicology" CD on that tour, which was built into the price of the ticket, for example. Another time his new CD was included in a Sunday newspaper in some city, maybe London. He never completely figured it out, I guess, but as a veteran of another industry blind-sided by the Internet revolution, it's difficult not to feel at least some kinship with what he was doing - and some admiration that he wasn't just going to take it lying down.

Probably a lot like Hendrix in that regard who was always trying to figure out a way to recreate the sounds he heard in his head. Who knows what Hendrix would be doing if he had lived, at the time of his death his music was starting to veer off in all sorts of directions. Prince was always putting together different bands and at the end was touring with a one-man piano show. He played by his own rules...

Of all the Prince tributes and articles I have seen over the last few days, I think this is the best. Written by a Minnesota music writer who has been covering him for years, someone who sat down with the man to talk and had repeatedly been invited to events at Paisley Park, it is perceptive and informed, appreciative and sad.

It also has a list of links to many lovely stories at the bottom. Very good work.

    Good night, sweet Prince
